Does anyone recommend a diet that works where you don't eat the same old stuff day in day out?

A)Eat less and move about more :)

Years ago I did a points based diet. all food had a point value assigned to it. You started with 35 points a day and then each month you dropped that daily limit by 5.
It did mean you could actually enjoy a Mars bar - which was 15 ponts as long as your meals and other stuff didn't go over the daily limit.
Most meats were free, most fish was free, new potatoes were free and salds were free so were steamed veg so you could actually do some quite nice meals.
It seemed to work for me as I lost 3.5 stone on it.
Of course that was 15 years ago I'm now a vfat bloke who craves beer and pork scratchings - which doesn't work :lolsign:
What are you after André, a quick fix small weight loss, or something over an extended period to lose a lot?
I have a 3 day one I use at times to lose around 1/2 stone. Always works and it's normal food - it's by the British Heart Foundation.
Personally, "fad" diets or following a regime have never worked for me - the only thing that does is a) cut out the booze (as much as possible! - but really, that is the problem for a lot of people) b) cut out the fat - avoid fatty foods as much as possible - knock the pies, red meat, cheese and crisps etc. on the head, or choose lower-fat versions and c) as Chris (Strat) eludes to - you need to make headway by burning more calories. I personally go for cycling (either exercise bike or the real thing) as I find it the easiest to fit in, but just doing more of anything physical in conjunction with putting in less "fuel" will help you lose the pounds. Good luck!
Amphetamine Sulphate (?) :eyebrows:
I cant imagine why i get this impression Andre but less beer is bound to help.

A proper diet is what i'm after, i'm 18 Stone/4, I feel knackered all the time, sleeping too much, i hate sleeping it's sucha waste of time..It's not the Booze, i only booze every other Friday if i can get away with it (contrary to some AOS members belief's) i think it's the late at night eating lark that does me, however it needs to come off, i used to be 12 stone at one bit :( I do walk to & from work every day thats around 1.5 miles round trip. I just need to retain that sex god look you know :eyebrows:
Andre, spin vinyl - getting up every 20 mins uses extra calories!
Pretty much as Alex says, you don't a need a "diet", you need to change the way you eat and exercise (more vigorous than walking), doing this just for the duration of a diet would simply get you into a cycle of weight loss and gain.
Two steps did it for me, but they're not recommended -
1, Become diabetic - every supermarket trip is a lengthy session looking at fat, salt and sugar content of all the food we buy. Lost over a stone in a year and the nurse is happy with that as the loss is in a straight line and not sudden..
2, Lose your job and/or survive on a miniscule income (a certain person known to me ;) spent more on his weekly wine bill than we do on a weeks food - ahem ). That way, no cakes, biccies and excess alcohol and the HiFi hobby is mainly very cheap accessories instead of major purchases...
Andr'e, I can't make any other recommendations to you other than to start watching the sugar and fat content of the food you buy and to try to eat more greens and less stodge. It's dead boring and a right pain, but it's the only way to do it properly. Sudden diets are the worst thing out there.
Speed up your metabolism by eating less routinely (I.e set meal times). If you feel hungry, eat (sensibly). If you don't, don't eat. When you do eat listen to the signals from your belly about being full. If you've got half a plate left leave it. By eating when hungry you send messages to your body that it'll be fed when it's hungry. If you get hungry again within an hour, eat a little something. If you don't eat breakfasts, that's a massive problem. Your body goes into starvation mode when you don't feed it and then it grabs and stores the fat from the next meal more rather than using it as energy.
It worked wonders for me along with some walking and generally being a fidget helped burn those calories. I rarely exercise. The odd weights session is about it.
It's not rocket science, you simply eat less and move more as mentioned earlier. The above is not a diet so you don't cut out foods you love you just eat less of them. Cut out foods then you crave them which leads to you eating them and feeling bad you've fallen off the wagon.
Yep this is straight from Paul McKenna along with my own experiences. You may hate him but it worked for me with bells on. I now eat between 2500-3000 calories a day but don't put an ounce of weight on. My metabolism must be massively fast as i still don't exercise much bar walking at lunchtimes and a bit at weekends. 20 mins here and there makes all the difference.
Also I eat anywhere between 200-300 calories directly before bed in the form of cereal bars or toast. It's never put weight on for me so flies in the face of those that say eating before bed is bad for weight management.

Thanks Chaps
It's mad, i'm not one for chocolate & sweet things, don't have sugar in tea or anthing like that, i have blow out on the booze one a week, i'm active, i walk everywwhere! crazy don't understand it. However i'll work on these sugestions see where i'm going wrang. Having my fingers glued to a PC keyboard all day doesnt help matter :)
A proper diet is what i'm after, i'm 18 Stone/4
Snap at the moment, i was down to 18 from nearly 19 stone but went on holiday so went back up to 18 and a half, i'm trying to cut out all those extra nibbles when i go fridge grazing and drink less beer, the trouble is i'm on my feet all day working out side so a few beers on the patio of an evening is a bad habit to get into, i eat my dinner then go fridge grazing, i'm lucky that i like salad so i make my own coleslaw with no sauce or dressing and can happily eat that every day for lunch which helps a bit, i also try to substitute chocky bars for Tomato's or celery in my pack lunch and cut out crisps for more fruit, muesili for breakfast is a must for me gets the metabolism going, it all helps, i have never been that small though and have only gained the last 3 stone over the last twenty years, i called it being big boned or under height for my weight, others call me a fat bastard and thats just my wife,
There's always a gastric band on the NHS

On a more serious note. The only time I did loose some serious weight was when I lived abroad in a hot country. The heat meant I could cycle everyday. The weight just fell off me.
Unfortunately due to arthritis in my knees (too much mountain biking when I was younger) It's just too cold to cycle in the UK.
So my tip is regular exercise of some sort.

Agreed Dave, I used to play football & cricket regularly, but a fusion of my left big toe (too many toe crusher deliveries from fast bowlers), and old age, has forced me to take up cycling as my only viable form of serious exercise, and it's a big help.
Myself and a few like minded mates have formed the beer by bike club, and go off on a Saturday for a prolonged pub crawl around Warwickshire, green lanes, real ale, and a pint ever 10 miles...we usually do about 25 to 30, or 2 to 3 pints.
It's a bit like the last of the summer wine, but it's good fun, and I really can't stand just exercise for exercise's sake...;)

That sounds like fun Will, i used to go up the South Downs Way which is up the end of my road, or peddle to a cafe for Tea and cake early on Sunday mornings with a mate on our mountain bikes, but worn out knees from years of kneeling on concrete have put paid to that now:(,
Just a gentle cruise along the seafront everynow and again for me, nice and flat :)

One of the few nice things about the midlands is the amount of canals, again nice and flat, just takes a bit of negotiating after a few ales ;)

Ive been doing well so far, worked out a diet, made sure i had my Brekki first thing (something i usually totaly miss). Bowl of Rice crispies or summert. Been enjoying steamed veg & fish for tea a few night.
I've been doing 100 star jumps after dinner every day before walking to work. Bit dicey buisness that star jump malarky, i've had to bridge myself between the kitchen & living room on top of the supporting wall to avoid the possibility of going through the roof, i doubt the downstair neighbour would be too impressed seeing me spread eagle on a pile of rubble stalk bo**ock naked :eyebrows:
I do feel a bit better already.

Well done mate!
:clapclapclap: :clapclapclap:
Here's to maintaining it, dude!
Marco.
Great stuff Andre', well done!!! but perhaps I shouldn't use that smilie  . How have you done it 'cos I'm heavier now than I've ever been and Christmas gluttony is just round the corner and I don't drink so I can't leave that out :) .
Have you stopped/reduced the 'pop' or is it down to a change of (food) diet?
Cheers,
Dave.

Basically Calorie counting,i stay clear of Red meat, i eat mainly Chicken & fish..Instead of bacon i will opt for Turkey rashes things like that. pasta/Rice is measured out no more than 100g etc etc..filling up on plenty Veg & Fruit, Plenty excersize, walking to & from work everyday.
all i drink is Red wine. I went mad yesterday due to a family doo but that was a one off, it's generally four glases on a Friday night.
Dieting is far from easy it's actually a very complex understanding.

Do you exercise?
As a result of redundancy I have been on enforced daily exercise being a part time postie. I do the equivalent of nearly two marathons a week, have lost 2 stone over 9 months and have the body I never really had at 21 (now 57). I have to watch the fat content of what I eat as it wouldn't really matter, but I could end up the thinnest dead man in the mortuary:lol:
It is a daily challenge (all steps and steep drives), but would never had thought that I could get a flat stomach and a five-ish pack from just walking. Downside - you lose weight off your face and look like a walking corpse:eek:

That is an amazing loss in waist measurement. Well done :)
I don't recommend it but my wife is just getting over an attack of the winter vomitting disease and she's lost as much in 5 or 6 days as she's ever lost on a diet :) .
Probably liquids sadly. Hope she recovers soon...
I've fallen off the Diabetes wagon again and it's very difficult climbing back on, the chocoholic that I am - that and pils lager - cough...... At least I have three flights of stairs to navigate many times a day at work. I have the twice yearly bloods this week and aren't sure what to expect this time, especially as the recent man-flu bout took my blood pressure to heights it shouldn't be anywhere near...
Well done Andr'e on the weight loss. If you cut that mane of yours back, you'd lose another half a stone I'm sure ;)

Well done Andr'e,

I havn't been in 34 waist trousers for over twenty years

Well done Andre...
I'd forgotten about this thread. I too have lost 4 1/2 stone in 4 1/2 months by calorie counting. It's as simple as that.
No exercise whatsoever as I work long hours and am too tired even to lift a finger when I finish.
I'm looking forward to showing all my friends on my next day off on January 4th.
And no i'm not kidding i'm working 12 hour shifts every single day until Jan 4th...:violin: lol

Well done Dave, calorie counting is just that, any dietry book should show chart where you take your height/weight/age into account, giving the allowed daily calorie allowance for you..
The first half of the day was tought at first.. Easiest thing for me was try avoid just cereal or toast for brekki making me feel hungry before dinner, an Egg or even beanz on toast kept me going without hunger. As i got well into the diet the getting hungry just went away.
However the maintaining is important now, i never ever want to get overweight again, i know full well drinking larger for England was the biggest contributer to my weight gain, so i completely cut that out, special mixed kebabs with lashing of garlic sauce the size of Birmingham city centre didnt help either, but now i'm done i look down on those things with disgust..
Yes i'm working all the way thru Dave, just New Years day off as it's the wife's birthday, don't do crimbo anyway so best off earning plenty cutter, instead of sat on my arse with temptation in front of me

Andre, Basically I have 2 x brown toast for breakfast and 2 x tortillas with tuna and salad in the evening. That comes to about 1000 calories. I also have 3 liters of water and about 4 x green teas which have no calories.
When I have a night off (rare these days) I have either fish or chicken and a pile of vegetables. I never eat after 17:00.
I use a site called 'My fitness pal' which is free to join and has an excellent food database to help inform me which food has what calories.
I also take a vitamin C tablet everyday.
Apart from going from a 44" waist to a 36" waist my blood pressure has returned to normal for the first time in 20 years.
I can also now see my tallywacker without the aid of a mirror...
