NICOTINE PATCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My GP has been nagging me senseless. Soooooo I joined the smoking clinic.

Free patches and gum. They give you the edge. No cigs for 2 weeks.
I must admit the patches burn your lungs like f**k when you smoke them so I had to give up.

I never see my GP (if I can at all help it), so it would be difficult for them to nag me over anything.

I gave up smoking 20 years ago (approx) - I don't miss it at all. One day I just decided (or realised) that I didn't really like it.

I'm getting to the same stage myself Mark, I should really stop thinking about it and go ahead and just give 'em up. The crazy thing is, I didn't start smoking until I was 40 and I'm still wondering why

I smoked for about 14 years or so and gave up 6 years ago. Once I'd got over the first few weeks I didn't miss it all which was surprising given it was such a big habit previously. One thing's for sure though, I couldn't do without a slow-sipping beer in the evening!

Good luck giving up. I did it a few years ago, no patches or anything just cold turkey, one of the best decisions I have made. I am sure most smokers want to give up for health or cost reasons. If you have kids you owe to them and to yourself too.

Without looking exactly, the wife has been stopped around 10 months now, the thing i'm proud of her for is she just stopped like that, no patches, no substitutes, no nothing just like you Steve...

:lolsign: Wild horses wouldnt get me to a doctors surgery, if i'm dying i'll probably need one to fill me full of BS but he'll have to come out to me & do it.

As you say Andre I think cold turkey is the way to it. All the same it doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do it.

I stopped smoking a few days ago after 35+ years of a half ounce a day tobacco habit.
I have never tried to quit before.
I halved my consumption for a month, then halved it a gain for two weeks and finally halved that again for a further two weeks.

To quote Vinni “It’s been emotional”

<snip> a half ounce a day tobacco habit.
Feck, i do smoke but that's some smoking John ;) Well done for quiting & i hope you keep it up m8, i'd love to quit but i'd need to stop drinking first  I smoke more when i drink...

I get through about 2oz or 56g of rollup tobacco every fortnight, maybe a tad more - no filters though, ever...

I wish you the best of luck m8, i'd love to give up, but i know i need to quit the booze before i even attempt it & i don't see that stopping soon as i keep ordering it

I think i have made my peace with myself, i know what's going to happen & i'm pretty happy with it.. You have family so no doubt you think a bit differently :eyebrows:

This not smoking is weird shit. I'm sure i was tripping for a few days. Has anyone else had colours become more vivid?
Having a pink tongue again is well cool. I've been asking my dancing partners if i can kiss them to test out my improved taste buds; gettin away with it as well ;)

So, I was wondering how all you other nicotine junkies were doing? :eyebrows:

I’m finding it pretty hard going tbh. The first few days strangely enough were pretty easy and I started to think that if this was all there was to it its going to be easy. Probably all that extra oxygen in the early stages just slapped what few brain cells I have left about for a while and everything looked kinda rosy stoned.
I’m in my third week now although I’m trying not to count and I still have to wrestle myself to the floor and hide my wallet in the evenings when I don’t go out.
Not so bad later on when I’ve been out and get on the net late, but if I’m in all evening its hard work.
Quite a few people have said that no patches, no gum, no substitutes is in fact the way to kill it off quickly.
Have to say, much to my horror coz I was pretty fit despite the fags that cycling is a lot easier now.
Also I can taste stuff again but given its mostly my cooking this may not be an advantage.
I’ve been putting the money I would have spent on baccy and papers, lighter fuel etc in a box on a daily basis. It works out at approximately £3.20 a day which isn’t quite as bad as if I had smoked tailor made cigarettes which I believe are gone £5.00 a packet now.

Keep it up John, you are doing very well m8 (coming from a smoker) ;)

I'd like to knock it on the head, but i keep getting cheap baccy (as you try to do ), but if i ever run out which i can see happening at some stage, i might end up joining you :eyebrows:

I really need to cut out the  first though, it'd make things much easier as i smoke more when drinking

For an excellent insight into how not to behave when in the American Deep South watch the 'Top Gear US Road Trip' special from a few years back. It's incredibly funny but I'm glad I wasn't with them :lolsign:

Good luck to you all of you .. I packed it in 15 years ago .. cold turkey ... but whatever works for you keep it going. I used to always want a ciggie after eating and when I was having a beer ... but I carried toothpicks and chewed on one of them .. It actually worked haha!

......a box of Davidoff cigars

From the useless heap of nonsense facts that are retained in my head even though I have trouble sometimes remembering my own age:
Fact No. 67329.3

Davidoff used to (& still may, for all I know) sponsor a Gold Cup Polo Championship in the south of England. During matches the commentator was compelled to state at every available opportunity the following immortal words, which is possibly the most ridiculous behaviour ever conducted over a Tannoy.
"Tick Tick, Puff Puff, Davidoff stuff"

.............arse!

I smoked for 40 years (up until) 3 years ago, last 20 years I was 40+ a day. Never went more than 12 hours without a smoke in all that time. I used to get up during meals to nip out for a fag. Lied, cheated did whatever I needed to do to get my fix. Even got up at 3 in the morning to drive round looking for a cigarette machine.

Then one day 17th august 2007 I just stopped, never missed it once, not even for a second. 4 months later December 23rd to be exact I was diagnosed with mouth cancer. Aint life a bitch sometimes.
