Redecorating the hall and looking to try something "cool" for a change :)

Visited an art gallery whilst on holiday there and a local artist showed their work in white wooden frames that had a central "square" that stuck out which displayed the artwork.
The guys style was pop art and some of it reminded me of record covers and made me think hmnn...good idea for my hall!

Would love to source similar white square frames that best show off the artwork but cant find anything on t'internet.
My halls long, narrow and white with wooden floor...ideal to display stuff on the walls.

Any thoughts on doing this with LP covers or where I can get a similar frame?

Hi Gaz, I'm doing some similar planning at the moment, albeit on a slightly larger scale. I'm looking to create a couple of 1M square acoustic dampers for my living room with album covers scanned and printed onto canvass.

Try a local computer printing company, they will use some standard sized frames and will have access to a frame manufacturer. The frames are not the problem the problem is with the artistic rights, so unless you use the actual album cover you may have to look for a less scrupulous printer...I'm still searching for one, or one that doesn't recognise the front cover of 'Physical Graffiti' at least...;)

Crackin' idea Will, those dampeners will look great.
Who cares if they work or not ;)

I actually have old vinyl which I'll digitise first then salvage the cover for framing.
Thats the plan anyway.

They ones I DONT have...yeah, hadn't thought about the whole image copyright thing.
Needs some thinking.

These are silver but could always be painted white?

They are quite flimsy with plastic glass but cheap enough. I use the same ones in black but only paid £2.40 a few months ago...!

Or if you have more dosh there are these. which are real glass but you pay for it...!

I just typed 'Album cover frame white' into google...

Gaz,
I can't see your neck of the woods being that much different from mine - there are a few picture framers around who will frame anything for you in almost any style frame you want and for a lot less than £99 for 3 I would think. It's only a 12" square picture FFS :eyebrows: .
Dave.

yeah...

want to do quite a few covers, maybe in groups of 4 so looking for a cheaper option!

Cant harm to ask local printers..might be happy for the business.

custom job maybe?
Could get pricy.

Maybe get summit from IKEA and trim to size?
If its a one off could be worth it?

Gazjam

One of these might do the job...just need to trim off a centimeter from around the mount.

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60078034

29cm space for pic, LP 31.5cm...close enough maybe.

I would have thought Marco would know the answer to this - or at least have a very good idea - drop him a PM.

Hi Guys,
Anybody still interested in hanging LP cover 'art' on their walls may be interested in this: -

Its not a problem...:) I only paid £2.49 for mine (discounted) They are plastic and cheapish but when on the wall no one notices.

Dave you old stirrer ;)

Plastic and cheapish...much like myself!
As long as they look good on the wall thats what matters...

The original idea was to have the frames disappear against a white wall showing only the artwork, so I'll probably spraypaint the frames white anyway :)

Then why not just stick the album covers straight onto the wall?

.... blu-tac or similar .... :)

Or do away with the album covers altogeather and just imagine them up on the wall...?

You could start wearing glasses & stick tiny scans of your favourite album covers on the backs of the lenses. That'd be best, I reckon.

Or skilfully airbrushing the album covers directly on the wall.

...........or your album cover of choice could be The Beatles - 'The Magnolia Album'

Or if you chose Ian Dury & the Blockheads, you could have a different album cover for each wall, but cover the whole wall!

How about building your entire house out of album covers? - you would need to varnish them or something to stop them going soggy in the rain. Use gatefold sleeves to form the roof apex...
