Passive preamp 48 steps preamplifier

Has anyone ever tried one of these. I want to get myself a good quality preamp, but I don't want to take out a new mortgage to do so.

Aiming for something simple to go with my gainclones.

I recommend the Lighter Note (http://www.buildanamp.com/Full-KIT_c5.htm) made by Uriah Dailey. You can buy it as a diy kit or ready made (without an enclosure). The design is based on the Lightspeed Attenuator but with a more advanced power supply and many more tweaking features. It's currently just supplied as a single input attenuator but a multi-input add-on and remote volume control add-on should be available soon. As with the Lightspeed, there's only ever one resistor in the signal path per channel, so it should be the most transparent attenuator available. Also, unlike a stepped attenuator it doesn't have any switching contacts or wipers in the signal path. :)

I like that passive from Warsaw very much indeed and, at the end of the day, what's going to be the sound quality difference between one resistor in the signal path or two? Certainly not a lot.
Love the Alloy and wood thing he's got going on and the money seems right.

The gainclones will work very nicely with a passive.

Hard to tell what the final price will be but at the current price you'd be hard pushed to buy the components, yet alone build it into an attractive enclosure.

Those are my thoughts exactly. After building a couple of gainclones I realised how much things cost to make.
