Hi,

I'm based over in East London, I'm a programmer working for Sony (games division - doing SingStar / DanceStar), but I run a couple of Hi-Fi related websites: http://www.roydaudio.com and http://www.hifihunter.com
The former is all about Royd Speakers, the latter a second hand/exdemo hifi search engine.

Obviously I have a few Royd speakers I run (Doublets, Minstreal, Envoys, Apex, AV77), and other gear I use is: Primare pre/processor, Cairn power amp, Exposure XXV, Thorens TD160 Super with Alphason Xenon arm and a Mac mini with M-Audio soundcard. Oh and I've got a huge coffee table, that doubles up as a BK Monolith subwoofer.

I natter a bit on other forums, but recently stumbled on this one, which seems an interesting read.

Hey Cool! I'm at 15GMS, we'll have to catch up in canteen or something.

Had a bit of a change around lately. Ditched my Rega Apollo and swapped my rack in favour of a nice wooden cinema style cabinet. Just got new telly too (10 year service award!) However last night my Primare processor has started playing up, entire digital side appears to have died, only works on analogue bypass. :(

Welcome from me too, Arthur - I've spent many a drunken night with your creations! Hope you get the Primare sorted. :( When it is all working, what sort of music do you like - and did you chose the tracklists on Singstar...? Enjoy the forum. :)

The Primare has started playing ball, a bit. Its been a bit intermittent for while. Bloody annoying, think it really needs a service.

Music wise, Goth, Industrial, Metal, Rock, Punk, Blues, Electronica, Techno, Ambient, Dance, classical and everything inbetween. Right odd ball mix. AC/DC to Auteche, Blutengel to Bauhaus, Cure to Covenant, Dead Can Dance to Deadmau4, Danny Elfman to Einstürzende Neubauten, Front 242 to Fleetwood Mac, Grinderman to Philip Glass, Hocico to Husker Du, Imelda May to Iron Maiden, Joy Division, Kyuss to Killing Joke, L7 to Ladytron & hawke, Mesh to Clint Mansell, NIN to Nirvana, Offspring to William Orbit, Paradise Lost to Perl Jam, Queen Adreena to QOTSA, Rancid to Chris Rea, Sisters of Mercy to Paul Simon, Tool to Tiesto, Unkle, Velvet Underground to VNV Nation, Roger Waters to Wolfsheim, Xandria to errr... need more music... :)

I have to say I hold you totally responsible for my recent purchase; a pair of Royd Doublets.
Purchased them on ebay and collected on Sunday. Love em.

Congratulations on your excellent and informative website.

You may; if you don't mind, be able to help me.
I didn't get any spikes in the deal and I wondered if you knew what size/thread they were; perhaps I could get some made.
Re your recommended speaker cable, I'm using Chord Odyssey2 speaker cable connected to a Rega Brio R. Do you think your recommendations would improve the sound quality ?

Just noticed your reply to this thread. :) Glad you like the Doublets. I'm guessing you've got the spikes now, M8 size yep.

I've been experimenting with sticking mine on granite chopping boards (Wilko's are currently best price, £9.50 for 30x40cm), as I have a suspended wooden floor. Just blu-tac'd them on currently, but I'm going to try some spike to couple them to the granite. Thought I got some with the speakers, but I can't find them! Which ones did you get in the end?

Regarding speaker cable, I'm not familiar with Chord Odyssey. Trying to remember which Chord cable I tried once, might have been Rumour... I'm currently using NVA LS1 with my Doublets, and some Naim NAC 3 or 4 with my Minstrels. Both of which I preferred to the Chord cable, although I don't recall the difference being that huge. The NVA cable was chosen more because I had three lengths, so I could match the Doublets with my AV77 centre.

Hi Arfa, I was just going to compliment you on the Primare when you said it's playing up. I hate that! Nice looking preamp, though. The Alphason looks nice on the Thorens, too.

Yeah, bit of bummer regarding the Primare. Seems the digital board has totally died. Can't get a lock onto anything. Karma AV are the current dealer over here, have booked it in for a repair, just need to pack it all up and get it posted. They said, last time one of these came in needing a new digital board it was around the £200 mark. Hoping that's all it need doing, in which case it's not too bad. I certainly can't afford to buy one of these new!
