Hi everyone,

While installing my new cartridge on my gyrodec last night, I lined up the HIFI NEWS test LP, which ran fine, then for some Donald Fagen, and HORROR, the LP ran totally slow, and Fagen sounded more like Barry White!

Obvious things I did next were to clean the belt, and the grooves
tighten the pulley on the spindle of the motor,
oil the bearing, checked that the ball was in place...
The motor was bought only 3 months ago by the way.

Checked again with the Keystrobe, and I am still completely off pitch!:(

Arghhh!

Has anyone had a similar problem?
Any help?

Many thanks in advance!

Is the bearing oil well/spindle screwed fully into the sub-chassis? Had this once with my (non SE) Gyro which was causing the bronze part of the bearing to rub on the sub-chassis

That I didn't check!
Just to be sure, you are talking about the bolt at the bottom of chassis. The one you need a 10p coin to tighten?

cheers:cool:

That's the one. Mine somehow worked itself loose a few turns which reduced the clearance enough to make it rub. Only ever happened the once

Bang on! That was the culprit! Like you said the screw kind of got undone and got the platter in contact with subplatter causing it to slow down!:)
Now back in business! Many thanks for the tip!

Yep, great job - how about a photo to show how to locate the part in question?

Absolutely, great when a plan comes together.

Let me post some piccies to explain where the problem was.

I hope this will help fellow owners of Gyro to fix this rather scary little problem!
