Sad news today at the Bournemouth air show. 9 Red Arrow jets took off, but after completing their display only 8 landed. It is thought that one jet veered off from the flight and went down 1 mile short of the airport. It appears the pilot stayed with the aircraft (possibly to ensure) it missed a nearby shopping centre.

Flight Lieutenant John Egging was pronounced dead at the scene.

The entire squadron has been grounded until the outcome of an investigation.

Very sad - and still I am sure an enviable reputation the World over.

Holy shit, they have been flying over my place for the last few days, I live 2 miles from Bournemouth airport. The last time they came over they were extremely low, which is unusual and the noise was deafening, I looked out and saw two groups of 3 and the two singletons normally come after those two groups, but I didn't see or hear anything else, only those 6.

This is very very sad news and touches home as my father was an RAF pilot.

O dear that is bad news
It came down about 3.5 miles from me André, the airport is surrounded by forest and farmland, but near the crash site is a large shopping park, Castle Point and a housing estate. I thought it unusual for them to be so low and awhile later heard loads of sirens, but thought nothing of it and didn't imagine the two were connected. I feel a bit sick now to be honest, how very sad.
