Hi folks, another nut to introduce himself, Robert for serious reminders of misspent childhood, else Bob.
I currently live in Romania where life is very different to Scotland, which I left in 2000. With excellent beer at 60p/pint, I personally think it was a shrewd move.....
Like most lunatics in these asylums, I have spent considerably too much time scrimping and saving, buying, building, modifying and generally messing around with audio equipment most of my life. Not esoteric stuff, but is amazing what you can do with blutac, a soldering iron, components, and a sense of adventure/blind stupidity.
From my first introduction to electronics with a Heathkit from my Dad as a kid, I was hooked to DIY, although he was none too impressed when he came come to find his malfunctioning massive portable (read trans-portable) radio in bits on our kitchen table. It went back together with no parts left over and worked properly, but his STUFF was off-limits from then on.... My next project was a Sinclair mono amp and speaker which was borrowed for a local youth club every week. It was clear from that moment where my destiny lay...
So I went into Civil Engineering just to annoy Fate....
My analogue sources are pretty much in mothballs having just moved, but the HTPC/MediaPortal is doing as good if not a better job (sorry peeps) driving the locals mad with celtic, jazz, fusion, classical, etc etc.. The apartment occupants above and below me are deaf, or at least they are now.
I hope I can contribute, but please do not expect any response to questions over EMI on optical lines or other such Edgar A Poe stuff, as I will be too busy laughing.....
