Good luck with that. Some of the early albums are very hard to find in good condition.

I think I have about 30 or so UK first editions. I seem to remember 'Ruben and the Jets' was hard to find.

I just scoured record fairs picking one up every now and again. It was like finding gold in them thar hills...:)

'Round here, it's finding them for a reasonable price, rather than not being able to find 'em at all. Back in the 90s I went crazy with Zappa on CD, so I don't have to have them on vinyl... but it'd be nice. :eyebrows: I see them quite frequently. If there's one you want me to keep an eye out for, let me know.

Now the CDs can be a bit of a Curate's Egg.

Take Thing Fish as an example - the late '80s Rykodisk release is a transfer of the original masters.
The remaster is a remix jobbie, and while it's all very well done, it isn't the same - there's a couple of bits added in there that weren't in the original release, so it's "close but no cigar" in my book.

"Gregarry Peccary" from Studio Tan is another doctoring job gone wrong.
The CD mix is not the same as was released on vinyl.
If you want to hear the original mix on CD then you have to get hold of a copy of Läther - in fact you'll find out that the original track was cut down slightly for vinyl release .

Hot Rats on CD is another case - the early Ryko is the one to have, 'cos the current one is remixed.
