Hi David, cavernous bass huh :eyebrows: I bet your TT doesn't like 15Hz or lower... It'd get in a bit of a flap ;) Just remember that CD can do 1HZ if it's there (speakers might not though :lol:) as the response is damn near to DC...

I'm sure it'd do even better fed by a pure 50HZ 240V AC source rather than UK mains which does vary in frequency ;)

I do have a 50hz Regenerator somewhere I built to power a 401. 50hZ Wein Bridge into a chip amp.

That'd do with a transformer ;)

Might need a decent sized capacitor on the primary to eliminate any DC offset problems & DC current draw, but it sounds good.

The published design I started with had caps in the output, but without using large values I was loosing a lot of power in them. It had a split rail supply, and I added a servo to keep the output at 0v, so it ended up driving it directly if I remember.

Lol! Every T/T has its strengths and weaknesses, and everything in audio is about choosing your compromises..... Nothing is categorically 'The Best'!

The bass on a Garrard is very good, but it's a different type of bass from that of a modified SL-1200. I also know which T/T I'd choose for ultimate detail retrieval and accuracy! But we all have our different tastes and priorities ;)

When I visit, I'll bring my Techy round and we'll have a T/T shoot-out - should be fun!! :)

Your blog looks good, dude, but it needs tidying up a bit, in terms of grammar and spelling. If that doesn't worry you, then cool. But if you'd like me to look at it for you, just shout :cool:

Yes, the 301 and 401 do tend to do that to the Technics.

And pretty much every other turntable.......;)

The Technics has made the AOS quite famous, a lot of traffic to my site comes via the masses of keywords and tags that the AOS have generated, my most recent PSU for the SL1210 came via the site, I would say it's a must for anyone interested in taking what is beer money for a basic Techie then up-grading when funds allow, I have done mine as much as I want to I thought, then , I decided to get rid of the black model and go silver so an SL120 Mk 2 is sat waiting to be operated on now, my black techie has gone to a good home, some southern pufter is getting it, so I will bring the SL120 up to speed and then get the 401 on song too with a decent PSU and maybe trial them together in the same system.

Are you sure that it's not the other way round - certainly in terms of its modified status? ;)
