Hello There

My name is Adrian ,I'm 63 and into sounds,and hi fi,and vinyl.
I live in S .herts,Rickmansworth,which is on the border with LONDON.

I still play live music with my band.(rock and pop (older stuff) I play drums,and Vocals. I insist on Lemmy volume all round.....errr,no,not really.


I like::: Vocal harmony(Beach Boys,Brian Wilson,Four Seasons ,Tony Rivers and the Castaways,Six Hits and A Miss from the 1940's) etc.,etc.
Catchy modern stuff, ,kiss FM type of thing)

Early 1950's steel guitar (Speedy West ,Billy Williamson)

'Ave Maria' by 'la Companie d' Chanson' One of the most moving songs I've ever heard, (flip side of the 1957 hit JIMMY BROWN)
Lots of other things.I love em' all!!

I have 2 systems.

A retro JBL Tri amped system with large scale 1970's speakers . JBL horn modded mids. Powered by Yamaha M 80(lows 250 wpc)and Yamaha M35's for top and mid.(40wpc)Yamaha C-70 pre amp.Ashly Electronic X-over. Not a lot to talk about with that as most of the gear used was never really available in the UK,as far as I know.I got most of it from the U.S

Always wanted to build a good deck so I eventually did. LENCO idler.Hard work, but so rewarding.Weighs a ton.Huge sound with right cartridges/stylii


Second system is the Tannoy with cabinets built by Wembly Loudspeakers mid 1970's to Berkely spec.Drivers re- coned by Roger at Lockwood Audio from 15" HPDS to Prestige spec with the hard edge surrounds. I remember my mate getting these cabinets,all those years ago.Used them in his studio.

Pre amp is the Yamaha C-70. Borrowed from the other system.
Main amps are JLH mono blocks 100 wpc.
CD player Marantz KI sig.
Rarely used Pioneer Precision Cassette player.(this can give you some big supprises sometimes) Sony Tuner older model.

I have a decorating business,was originally a signwriter.

I was dragged up in Loudwater, only a couple of miles up the road from where you are.
I don’t get over that way often these days but I often wonder how much Rickmansworth has changed in my absence.

Haven't really got any stories as it was the most unfriendly place on earth. All those years and I only knew two people I could nod to and both those moved on..:rolleyes:

Hello guys

I have just joined the forum and will be wanting to talk speakers at some point.
I am originally from Berkhamsted but now living in Northwood so not a million miles away either.

I still remember the Goodmans magnum XL speakers I got out of the tip at my local air cadet hut and used to have wired to the car stereo in my beetle haha.

no idea what happened to those speakers :(

Nah, Croxley Green is a hotbed of social friendliness compared to Loudwater. When I lived in Loudwater you had to travel by bike with a picnic to find other kids and when you did they couldn’t come out to play until their parents had checked your parent out.

The Aston story is absolutely true by the way. I won’t say the name but he bent the car a few weeks after getting it coming back from the White Horse on the ChorlyWood road when turning into Troutstream Way. Hit one of the gate posts poor chap :lol:

Oh, I'd better say something about Croxley, or I'll feel left out! Isn't that where the paper used to be made? I seem to remember going to the mill about 15 years ago - not for paper - it had been turned into a restaurant. Probably still is?

It is indeed Alex, or rather was, Croxley Mills. Watford and surrounding area used to be heavily involved in the paper and newsprint business. It was what generated much of the areas wealth many years ago.
