CDP vs BDP, BNC vs RCA

I have recently read that a dedicated CD transport will outperform a Blu-ray player, and that a BNC cable delivers better SQ than an RCA coax. Since I use my BDP as my transport, I was wondering if any forum members have made back-to comparisons between that and a CD-only transport.

Also, have any of you done a similar comparison between BNC and RCA coax?
I certainly noticed a difference for the better when I switched from optical to coax! Thanks.

In the past I used a dvd player, top value of £150 that was on par with my far more expensive (£1500 ish) cd player, but have not tried a BDP for comparison.
I can't comment on your second query, although I can echo your sentiment of the optical V coax comparison! :)

somewhat foolishly I sold my old meridian 200 transport to buy a 500 series to match, at the time processor. A bad mistake the draw on the 500 kept sticking and it never to me a sounded as good as the clocked 200. I did try the 200 against a 868 dvd player and a BD30 blue ray - neither came close.

SPDIF specifies a 75 Ohm resistance.
RCA plugs don't meet this criteria, BNC does so is the better plug to obtain impedance matching.

I'm reliably informed that a modern DVD stype cheap machine makes a great transport these days when used with modern and more tolerant? DAC's. Once I have my oldie-goodie Digit/Positron wired up in the second systrem I'll be able to hoof in my cheapo DVD players to try :) Certainly, the Digit/positron sounded surprisingly good when the clocked Micro Seiki was used as transport :)

Nope, that's just marketing... it is physically impossible for an RCA plug to have a 75R impedance. Having said this the Canare plugs do keep a 75Ohm impedance as much as possible, more so than standard RCAs.

Hi Bill, is your question about transports in general or about your specific transport ?

Differences between RCA and BNC are not that simple : sure BNC usually have better impedance tolerance, but modern dacs re-sample signals, so, it's hard to say what is better in specific cases... I would say that for modern dacs it doesn't matter *that* much. ;)
