Speaker cable for push-fit connection?

Hi guys

I need some speaker cable to fit the bare wire, push-fit connecters on the back of my late 70's amplifier. I've tried my Naim Nac but the core is just too thick and even though I stripped half the wire away to make it fit the rigid inflexibility of the Nac causes endless problems.

Any recommendations for a decent, flexible cable with an appropriate sized core? Or would it be easier/better to convert the amp to banana connections?

How about just getting a connector that allows you to go from one to the other Paul I am pretty sure you local Maplin would be able to help. It save buyin new cables I have cricklewood electronics locally so could even get for you I presume you have standard banana terminals

As far as I am aware there is no adaptor available to convert standard 4mm banana plugs to fit into the spring loaded terminals.

What I used to do is get a set of BFA hollow connectors and squeeze the ends down with a pair of pliers to fit the hole in the spring terminals.

They take cable up to 10mm and are double screw type so no soldering

They are made for precisely that job. You can also use them in binding posts if you change things around later.

thanks, but I really need some new cables as they're going to be soldered directly to the x-overs attached to the speakers - the Nac is just to rigid and big to work this time otherwise I would have kept it.

Thanks Frank. I never thought of doing that but will definitely give it a try, just for the hell of it. Have you compared that method against a straight bare wire connection?

You do mean spring connectors, don't you? If so, then yes, they do - that's what they're made for. The ridges on the shaft stop them from slipping between the jaws of the connectors.
I use them in my old receivers.
I've got my Yamaha wired up as a pre-amp at the moment & the cables are being loaned to a friend so he can have a play with an old amp of his Dad's, The receiver I'm currently using as a receiver(!) is a Pioneer which uses their own connectors (different again).

I think the Belkin ones are a crimp fit. However, the CAD ones that I have are solder only.

If you want to swap the cable and would prefer to use bare wire, then solid core cable like that made by DNM would be good.
