Hi I'm Chris. Being married I tend to listen on headphones mostly. I have a Rega Apollo CD player and a Panda Headphone amp (assembled by Mike at Rock Grotto). My usual headphones are Senn HD600's but I do have a pair of Grado 125s and Senn HD650 lurking around. My amp is an old Audiolab 8000 and I have Rodgers ls7s when I get a chance to listen "out loud". Tucked away and used very little is an old LP12.

Musical tastes range from Classical to Jazz with pop stuff from The Beatles to Frank Zappa.

I have been looking on various threads here and it is nice to see the good humour even when people disagree. Some of the tweak things I've read have made me laugh out loud with some of the responses. Looking forward to reading more... :)

Hi Chris and welcome to AoS. The HD650s have a great reputation. Do you prefer the HD600s?

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Yes I do prefer the HD600s now I have a good Headphone amp. They sound (to my ears) more natural and extended than the HD650s. The amp has tamed the rather unforgiving top end that the HD600's can have.

Thanks Chris. I've seen some of your posts already and of course noticed the Grand Wazoo reference. :) Did you ever get to see Zappa live? I was fortunate enough to see him several times throughout the 70s and early 80's.

Yes, I saw him 3 times, all of them in the 80's though, unfortunatley.

Hi Chris, welcome to AoS :) Doesn't matter what you listen to or for that matter what you listen to it on - welcome!

I hope you enjoy your stay, all the best ;)

Ello and welcome :)

You know, I hated the HD600's I had, finding them bland and with no dynamics. Turns out it was the headphone stage in my old preamp that just couldn't drive them properly. I'd love to try them again, now I have a full 30WPC un-attenuated output available.

Anyway, keep your LS7's for a rainy day and consider replacing the 8000A at some point :) As for ye old fruitbox, it'll come back into fashion one day and if given a good seeing to (oo-er missus) it'll beat a typical TD150 easily

Hi Chris and welcome aboard - nearly neighbours!

If you ever feel inclined then I can highly recommend the Matrix M-Stage headamp to go with your 650's. I'm actually doing a review at the moment and the two work together extremely well. The M-Stage is pretty much a clone of the Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear, but at only £179.00 a fraction of the price. It's bloomin' gorgeous to use a technical term ;)

Anyway, have fun and there's loads you can learn here with some very helpful members, who have many years of practical experience and no agenda's either, just honest advice.

Hi Chris, welcome from me too. You do have to laugh at the madness of it all sometimes - especially with all the real stuff going on in the world... Hope you enjoy AoS. :)

Welcome to AoS Chris.

Can't fault your tastes in music. Now if we can introduce you to either Abba or, better still, The Animals, you could say your pop/rock tastes run from A - Z. :)

But whatever your musical tastes enjoy the forum.

Agree with Dave (DSJR) concerning the Rogers LS7. Keep them (or sell them to me!)

Regards
