View Full Version : Speaker project.
Hi All.
I am looking for a new high efficiency speaker diy project. I have been using a pair of self built Jordan transmission line speakers for sometime. One fullrange driver per side. I would like to upgrade from these. The problem I am hitting is the size of my listening room 12ftx12ft. I listen mainly to smooth jazz and female vocalist.
I am new to this forum. So I thought I would put this out there, and see if anyone has any recommendations for a good upgrade from my present speakers.
I am a keen woodworker. So I would look forward to the build.
Thanks. Look forward to your replies.
I’ve rather fancied seeing what could be done with a pair of RVCXD3153 from imo (and a number of pro audio enthusiasts) one of the best driver manufacturers in the world.
Or, if keeping enclosure size small is important, the FR220.1

You’ll find them under the Pro PA range ;)

The Saburo is very good indeed-

Tall and deep, but very narrow.
A thread on Audio-Talk on a Saburo build-

He has made several high performance constructions.
Some of the projects need a keen woodworker
But you can always contact Troels and ask for his input; just feed him some information about your room, gear and music and I am sure that he will point you to some of his constructions
Thanks Everyone for your replies.
I must admit I like the idea of the volt fullrange drivers. Has anyone tried
The Volt FR220.1 in a domestic speaker system?
Any cabinet Idea's? Have not been able to find anything on the internet.
Thanks

They do look nice, but you are looking at almost a grand for a pair!
The driver data is there so it’s basically a case of experimenting using some speaker enclosure design software initially.
Wilmslow audio sell the drivers and may have some suggestions to get you started.
Failing that you could always contact David Lyth at Volt and see if he has any suggestions.

Thanks Again.
I Have sent an email to volt.
Cheers.
I also consider the 10 inch silver Iris open baffle drivers they would work in your room really well as long as you can put them about 3" from your rear walls They be quite an elegent solution and you would not set you back to much
