In Lucca last week, there was a series of gigs in one of the piazzas. Two of them were 'A Tribute to King Crimson' featuring David Cross* on violin, and 'A Tribute to ELP' featuring Carl Palmer on drums, and there was also 'A Tribute to Alan Parson**'. They do like their prog over there.

Italy played a massive part in the Progressive Rock Field back in the 70's..I bet a could list you over 300 Italian Prog acts :eyebrows:
David Cross was the Electric violinist with King Crimson: 'Larks Tongues in Aspic' , 'Starless and Bible Black' & 'Red' LP's

We were there for a week; made a day trip to Barga, but unfortunately too soon for the fish and chip festival. Both are lovely places, but I wouldn't fancy negotiating the streets of Barga in the winter!
Aye, they're bad enough in the summer! My uncle used to drive his Merc up and down the old part, usually half-pished on vino, and never scratched it once! :mental:
Nice one. The fish and chip festival is quite something, and the only time you'll hear more Scottish accents in Italy, than Italian!! :eyebrows:
So what gave you the idea to go to Barga? If you'd let me know you were going, I could've told you all sorts of cool places to go :cool:

I didn't know Barga was were your family were from until I got there and recognised it from some photos you'd put up on AoS. An apartment in Barga itself was on our shortlist of places to stay, but we decided Lucca was a better base for exploring.

We just read up about places around Lucca before we went, and Barga looked interesting. We also went to Florence and Pisa: we crammed a lot into one week!
I didn't know Barga was were your family were from until I got there and recognised it from some photos you'd put up on AoS. An apartment in Barga itself was on our shortlist of places to stay, but we decided Lucca was a better base for exploring.
We rent out our villa sometimes (if one of our family members isn't using it), so if you let me know next time you're planning a trip, you'd be welcome to stay. It's down in 'Via Roma', past where the cinema is and near the tennis courts, in the newer part of Barga, if you got down to that part :)
Lucca is a lovely city, though... I much prefer it to Florence, as its less busy and touristy, with some beautiful 'Piazzas' and some rather elegant architecture - the ice-cream parlours are pretty amazing too, if you like that kind of thing!
If you like doing city breaks in Italy, and fancy something different, try visiting Bologna. It's a fascinating and very typical Italian city, largely unspoiled by tourism, and the food is utterly amazing!

They were popular over there, they did a lot of dates around 1972 in Italy..
If you like doing city breaks in Italy, and fancy something different, try visiting Bologna. It's a fascinating and very typical Italian city, largely unspoiled by tourism, and the food is utterly amazing!
By a strange coincidence, Bologna is next on my list of places to visit!

I have been to Lucca some times, and to Barga one time. Very fine places, and wonderful views in Barga! Me I heard jazz in Lucca in a club though, and no prog.
