Recommended AWG gauge for silver power leads.

Guys,

I'm in the process of costing the various bits and pieces needed to produce some power leads for my system. I will need to produce 5 in total ;) but I have no idea what AWG gauge to make them from. I've been considering AWG 10 is this enough??

Whatever 2.5mm^2 works out to for bigger more powerful kit like your ATC active speakers ;) Lower impedance = better supply...

AWG 10 is good enough for 15 amps as a power cord. It is 2.58mm in diameter so you might have fun fitting it into a standard UK plug and small bodied IEC connector. I would suggest you use a Furutech FI-UK 1363 for the 3 pin plug

Neither of these are cheap but they make fitting large diameter cable gauges a doddle

thanks for your help so far. My silver has finally arrived. I have one quick question regarding the earth lead. Does this have to be silver????? I only intend utilising a copper earth lead, will this have any negative effect on the power lead or would silver be a better alternative?

Just make the earth wire as thick as you can, that's the bit that really makes the difference, providing the best low impedance return that you can build.

Thats not a problem at all Maplin sell some extremely thick solid core copper which will just do the trick :cool:
