This has happened twice now this week. I play some records and then switch to another input on the amplifier and its goes dead. When i turn everything of i get a crackle through the speakers and when i switch it back on everything is fine.
Freaking me out a bit.

The AVI neutron unit is basically a subwoofer that houses the pre amp and power amp that is matched to the neutron fronts.
It has several optical inputs and one pair of analogue inputs. Its these that seem to be the problem or maybe the icon phono tube amp.

How are the inputs selected? Does it do it by itself or is there a switch between the analogue & digital inputs?

Believe it or not the whole thing is operated by a digital remote, no pots on the thing at all. Even has seperate volume control for the sub volume and a selector for 40hz or 80hz. Unconventional to say the least but a clever idea.
I bought it because it matches the speakers and i like AVI amps.I like subs but have always been wary of them but this is easy. It seems to cut in to support the fronts. I dont know if it would be your thing but i bet youve never seen anything like it.

So you have a button on the remote to switch between the analogue & digital inputs?

Is it a Relay issue? just a pure guess

Yes its just buttons on the remote that flick form each input.

I doubt it'll be an issue with relays Andre, good thought though ;) Most non top end kit will use something like a 4066 chip (http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/173653/UTC/4066.html) to do the input switching as they are cheap & very reliable.

For ultimate sound quality certain type of relays would be better, but these 4066 chips or similar or indeed even banks of them with loads of inputs are quite capable of good sound quality ;)
