Hi all!

I'm Matt. And I live 'darn sarf', spending my time frolicking on the golden sands of Bournemouth beach. Actually, no time for frolicking - I'm a stay-at-home Dad with two daughters (age 3 and 1), so I'm usually found defending the tweeters on my speakers from exploratory (read: prodding) fingers.

My family and I are due to relocate soon to Lincolnshire and all things hi-fi, along with many other aspects of life, are presently in a state of flux. Confusion and delay, to quote the Fat Controller, are the order of the day.

Anyway, I'm in a bit of a hifi crisis at the moment; I've quite a lot of 'middle ground / middle cost' kit, but need to decide what stays and what goes. I've decided to postpone most of this decision making process until we relocate. That way, I can determine whether or not I can cram a Quad 33 / 303 based system into the downstairs loo. My present living room system comprises an Arcam DVD89 for all shiny disc stuff, a plastic Cyrus 2, a Sony ST-700es tuner and a pair of Mission 760is, desperate in need of some stands.

Music wise, my wife and I tend to listen to most things with a melody - I'm a sucker for female vocals. The three albums 'on the go' at the mo - kids in bed - (just casting my eyes to the hifi rack) - are Rodrigo y Gabriela '11:11', Robert Plant and Alison Krauss 'Raising Sand' and Sarah Brit when Sarah goes gothic . . . . !

I've a few projects on the go (although presently on hold) and after we've moved, I'll be tapping into collective brains to determine what I should be doing (and the best ways of doing it) with an Apple Airport Express my brother-in-law kindly gave me.

My favourite bit of kit (and presently boxed in the attic) is a TEAC TH-380DNT internet radio. At some point soon, I promise to write my first ever hifi review; very little info about this kit is available on the net, which seems a pity, as it's cracking slice of technology.

Hi Matt and welcome to AoS from another 'darn sarf' nut. I'm just north of Bournemouth actually.

There are a few of us female vocal affcianado's on the forum, me being one of them, in fact I have only just booked tickets to see Alison Krauss and can't wait - caught her with Planty on the Raising Sand tour a few years back and have been dying to see just her perform.

Anyway, join in the fun and if you are looking for stands, I was just about to put some on eBay actually - I have a nice pair of Ixos Deadrock stands that I got from Movement Audio in Parkstone. They are like these;

Great introduction there. I've only been to Bournemouth once (think I was about 10 years old) and don't remember too much about it - was there a park with candles in the trees or something like that :scratch: :scratch: ?

About the stands - I've just contacted another Bournemouth member 'Dan the Man' about a pair of Atacama SE24s that he still has for sale. He hasn't replied yet, but out of courtesy, I should wait I while before I look at anything else . . .

Just out of interest, and in case I can't contact him, how much would you be willing to part with Deadrocks for?

Would you be able to wait 48 hours before they go on the Bay? That way, if I can't sort anything out with Dan, I could take a punt on yours?

Looking in vain for a pair of stands for yonks, and two come along at once!

Hi Keith -

Every year, Bournemouth hosts a 'candle in the gardens' event. Your description pretty much sums it up. It is very pretty and my mother attends religiously . . . we're usually 'tied up' on these nights, having made a flotilla of previous engagements. There's only so many candles a man can experience in a lifetime. All, naturally, would be put to shame by Rhod Gilbert's 'torch with the power of a million candles', sketch. Perhaps the way froward for Bournemouth Borough Council.

Anyway, I digress - a fab place, generally, but we're off to explore the flatlands!
