Mine and my partners terrible year continues: My mother is currently in hospital suffering from complications caused by heart failure. She was diagnosed with the condition nearly six years ago and despite a couple of close calls over that time she continued to dumbfound the medical staff who treat her with her fighting spirit and ability to beat the odds. Unfortunately it would seem that her condition has finally imposed its wicked will on her and she is not expected to survive the weekend.

I would like to take this opportunity to praise the staff at Kettering General Hospital in Kettering, Northamptonshire who have been looking after my Mum, because they have all done an outstanding job during that time. It never ceases to amaze me that despite cuts by successive governments over the years, the NHS continues to supply first class medical care to those who need it. I am eternally grateful to you all and I know my Mum would like me to mention the same on her behalf.

Went through all this with my mum three and a half years ago. The NHS staff at the sharp end do a fantastic job despite everything.

So sorry to hear about your mum, Dave.

Thank you all so much. It is very traumatic but I'm having to stay focused because there is so much to do, plan for and worry about. Jeez, I never realized how much bureaucracy is involved, it all seems so inhumane. :(

Hi Dave,

so sorry to hear about your Mum. I went through a similar situation when my Dad passed away last year and also echo the positive remarks regarding the care at the "sharp end" of the NHS. The whole legal process does seem inhuman but there is and end to it and being involved certainly helped me to stay positive during a very difficult time.

At 7:50pm on Sunday the 31st of July my Mum peacefully passed into Heaven. :violin:

So very sorry to read that Dave.

I was in your shoes 12th of November 5 years ago, when leucemia took my Mum.

Its not easy but in time the sharpness will go out of the pain. It never goes away fully and why would any of us want it to as we recall those loved ones who have passed on but I can assure you that happy memories will become more common than sad, in time. So hold on to the love you had and the good memories and in time you will be able to laugh and smile again.

God bless all of you for your kind thoughts, it means a so very much to both myself and my partner.

Not only was she a wonderful Mum to myself and my sisters, but she touched the hearts of so many with her selfless attitude and sense of fun. She was one of those people who could walk into a room full of strangers and within a few minutes have them laughing and joking with each other as if they were old friends. It was a special gift that made her many friends.

I will say, in response to the OP, that the NHS have given me fantastic treatment and support since my brush with cancer two years ago. I cannot praise the Basingstoke Hospital enough and their oncology specialists are some of the best experts in the world. One cancer patient had been transferred from Aberdeen and another from the Channel Islands to receive treatment there. The community spirit in the wards and the attitude of the nurses was perfect. No amount of private cover could have given me any better than I received.

realy sorry to hear this, i am going through a similar time with my Dad at the moment, he had a heart attack 9 weeks ago and has since developed complications...

The human spirit is a wonderful thing, but after situations like this, it needs a couple of years sometimes, to heal. Take the excellent advice above, remember with love all the wonderful things she did for you and others Dave and after a time, it won't be so bleak, I promise you..
