View Full Version : Great Tracks Featuring... Ping-Pong Balls!
I've been meaning to start this one for ages - well, makes a change from flutes, saxophones and harmonica!
The first track I remember featuring a ping-pong balls was Depeche Mode - Pipeline (from Construction Time Again) from 1984.
Uc2koTGsKAQ
(Takes a while, but there's definitely Ping-Pong balls there - starts around 1min.)
I also remember this one from a Sunday Best compilation - which I love:
Daisy Daisy - Michelle Plays Ping Pong
KF4hQOKNh2M
...and I'm sure I've got other tracks in my collection with Ping Pong in it - but I can't remember any of them!
I'm especially interested in trying to establish if the Depeche Mode track is the first know use of the Ping Pong ball in recorded music... Yes, I know, I AM sad!
So, (could be the shortest Spotify playlist in history...) - does anyone know of any other tracks featuring Ping Pong balls!?
How about...
Flying Lotus - Table Tennis from the album Cosmogramma
YjzNUDOSAsg
 Nice one Will!
It's on the Playlist! :)

Can - Ping-Pong (3m20secs into this video)

I have an 18 minute EP by Safety Scissors and Kit Clayton called 'Ping Pong' as well. All the tracks are created from mashed up samples of ping pong balls, plus glitchy electronic bleeps and clicks of course.

Thanks Nick, I knew I could rely on you for some bleepy electronic weirdness! ;)
Amazingly, that EP is on Spotify (http://open.spotify.com/album/0znSrG4JT00r7kW0W11BkS), albeit broken into 36 tracks!
Oh Alex, you mean that the only thing you like on Construction Time Again is the ping-pong balls??????? I'm afraid that "side 2" had such a profound effect on me when I first heard it I tend to stay there, which is my bad I suppose :lolsign:

 A prima facie reason why Spotify needs gapless playback! At least you got to hear it!

:nono: Oh no, not my favourite, but just something which has been wandering round my mind for a few months (the ping pong balls that is!) - The whole album is superb - I'll have to lend you all of the DM CD remasters to try.

It's fab, but I think we'll just have one of the more pingy pongy ones on the playlist. :)

I've been playing some of the originals all evening 'cos of you :D
Please excuse my (lack of) humour. The only other track I can think of with a sort-of ping-pong ball is Kytes, by Simon Dupre - my memory is so vague, but I'm sure I have the right one...
Them Fairlight and Synclavier thingies have a lot to answer for in the 80's methinks

Pretty sure it is the track you are thinking of, but I'm not convinced it is a ping pong ball... Maybe I should start a ping pong poll

How about a sister thread in Abstract Chat, lads, entitled 'Great Fanny Stunts of Thailand Featuring... Ping-Pong Balls'!"
Pictorial posts only... :eyebrows: :eyebrows:

I think mars bars do it better - I'll get me coat
Don’t dismiss it – these Asian artists have developed and perfected amazing adroitness and control of the pubococcygeus muscle. I think it should be an Olympic sport.

See, I have been looking at this thread for a few days now, having travelled extensively in Thailand and most of SE Asia I had a funny response in mind, but thought "Nah, I can't put that - it's rude" But daftee here has trumped me

A frequent visitor to Patpong, Bangkok perhaps?

I'm really very shy..... :o

Nope, went there once only after being persuaded by a young Scottish couple who asked me to be their guide, as they wanted to see what all the fuss was about. As it was a free night I took them and we had quite a laugh. They nearly got scammed by the taxi driver on the way back too, until I said a few words to him in Thai I had been taught for such an occasion - he backed off luckily and I have never been there since and don't intend to repeat the experience either. But I love the country, it's people and the food..... especially the food :eyebrows:
Northern Thailand is my favourite place and around Khao Sok National Park, had my foot eaten by a rat one night in a water bungalow there! I always pass right through Bangkok now, but not been there since all the unrest, which breaks my heart to see a wonderful country in such turmoil. Anyway, I'm rambling now ....... :o

I was listening to this track the other day, and thought.... I must find that old thread!
Misty's Big Adventure - Biscuit Tin (on spotify) (http://open.spotify.com/track/1VIcTCQNoCNBI5X4xj9uHS)
And now combining 2 threads...the ping pong ball comes in at the end :)

Well done chaps, duly added! Hopefully next time anyone hears a track with ping pong balls, they'll think of this thread too!
