Cartridge problem

I was recently using the Hifi News test record to help set up my cartridge and arm. It seemed like a good starting point to get the best out of the pairing.
Everything seemed alright, even the band 9 bias setting didn't have the needle dancing accross the record. The bit that I'm concerned about is that on the side 2 full range frequency check there is a bit of 'break-up' noise on the right channel at the end of the band.
I swapped the connectors to the cartridge over and then it goes to the left. Is it a problem with the cartridge, or have I missed something? It is a Shure VST-V mounted on a Hadcock GH228 on a TD160.

You may need a touch more bias correction. the stylus could be slightly gunged up on one side, been there and seen it with these Shure HE tips, or it might just be general wear and tear - the VST-V must be pushing twenty years old now and ripe for EsCo or SAS replacement treatment :)

If the Hadcock has its damping fluid intact, don't use too much and you shouldn't need to use the damping brush on the cartridge. Track at 1g for treble or 1.2 for bass (crude, but i can't explain it any better). Lastly, check fixings for tightness, although these Shures aren't resonant by nature I think.

The VST-V was a "cut price" V15V I remember and it has more in common with the V15XMR and 97XE I believe from memory. Make sure (apologies :lol:) the stylus replacement is the correct one. An SAS tip should transform it I believe and look forward to getting one for my V15V. I'll feel better about selling the TD125 then :)

Thanks for that. I'll try to clean it up and give everything a further tweak. The VST is getting on for 20 years old, but hasn't had much use. I wandered away from vinyl for a while after my very old BD1 gave up the ghost.
If I was was going to get a new stylus would it be better to get one for the VST-V or get a new one for the V15 IV that someone kindly included free with my turntable when I got it off of ebay? Or maybe just get a new 97xe? It's not an easy thing to do a comparison of so any advice is welcome.
