Just found out there is only 1 Fiat Supermirafiori 1600 left on the the road and no 1.2 Alfasuds :eek: both rust buckets and not suprising really

Right up your era , my brothers mate had a couple of them, i will have to ask him next time i see him if he still has them, speaking of Triumph's i went out in a Spitfire Mk 2 fitted with a Rover High Compression V8 3.5 and a Jag IRS all fitted under the original shell, very quick and lots of fun

We made some loverly looking cars in the past, even the bad ones looked good, these days they all look crap.Years ago i could tell you the make & model of a car just like that, these days they all look the same, i don't have a flaming clue.

I saw one of my personal favourites the other day - a (mint) Reliant Scimitar - just looked it up - 1361 still on the road and 2082 sat in garages somewhere.

Depends which version of the Scimitar! i like the originals with the Ford Zephyr engine.

Fibreglass body probably helps. I saw one on eBay a while back that someone was in the middle of turning into a "monster truck" - why?!

The were based on Ford Essex V6 running gear but even with the fibreglass shell they beefed up the chassis so much and ended up being heavier and slower than the 3 Litre Capri they were up against from what i can remember. I had a Capri Mk 11 3 litre s Auto and now there's only one left and its sorn :(, i I got 130 mph up the M1 out of it on the way to Santa Pod one day, although the speedos' were know to be a bit Jackanory,

My mate had the Mk1 RS 3.1, now that would be worth a few quid today as there is only 5 on the road with 14 sorn, classic Fords make very good money now, my Favourite Ford at that time was a Anglia that had been fitted with a Lotus 2.2, the chap who owned it use to race and beat every thing on a saturday night down at the local illegal drag strip on Brighton sea front which is where they still hold the Speed trials nowadays, i think its one of the oldest time trial events still around and half a mile long, i havn't been for years, here's a link if your interested.

It's actually the once popular cars that seem to have dwindled by the most percentage wise - I had a Mk IV 2.0 Cortina Ghia, and going by the number for the appropriate years, there's only 9 Mk IV Ghias of any type left on the road! My Dad's mate had a Renault 20 TL which I loved as a kid - wonder if that is one of the 2 left on the road... Remember the Fuego? 23 taxed... How about this for an attrition rate though - in 1994 there were over 230,000 Montegos on the road - now there's only 117...

This is a clone, the original came to the UK in the sixties and was raced once I thinke by Alan mann. It was then advertised for sale and has since disapeared. I'd love to find it :smoking:

I'm not sure I'd want to be a passenger in the Fairlane though. In this clip he's doing 150+ mph in the rain :eek:
