I am looking to sell a lightly used but unmarked, boxed pair of Heco Celan 500 floorstanding loudspeakers in a high gloss silver lacquered finish. Heco have recently launched the newer XT version of the Celan Series so I'm seeking to clear the stock of earlier models I have remaining. This pair were used mainly for display purposes at exhibitions and have had less than 20 hours of playing time.
The Celan series incorporates newly developed 'Kraft' paper cones made from a mixture of long fibre pulp and wool and which resembles the paper used in the classic midrange drivers made by Goodmans, Klangfilm, Western Electric, Saba and Jensen. It gives an incredibly clean, natural and fast midrange performance and is especially appreciated for its reproduction of vocals and instrument timbre. All of the drivers were optimised on Heco's 'In House' Klippel development system. The driver chassis are diamond finished aluminium castings. The soft dome tweeters have a coating of carbon Nano particles which allow the dome to give clean undistorted high frequency output up to 40KHz.
The heavily braced, assymmetrically shaped cabinets reduce the effect of internal standing waves. Unusually, the reflex ports are also cast in aluminium and are bolted to the cabinets. As a result the low frequency performance is extended, clean and powerful.
This floorstanding model features an integral plinth which may be fitted with either the supplied spikes or rounded polymer feet depending on the floor surface.
The relatively high sensitivity and benign load characteristic means that the Celans make excellent partners for valve amplification.
The Celan 500's were the subject of an extremely complimentary review in the March 2008 edition of HiFi Plus.
