Plus eBay charge a listing fee and various fees for 'enhanced' listings, then there's the good old PayPal fees. :steam:

At least auction houses do some work for their 'premiums' - they photograph and catalogue the item, advise on its value and reserves, alert their regular customers to any items they might be interested in, provide facilities for the item to be viewed by prospective bidders, manage telephone, internet and absentee 'commission' bids and provide a skilled auctioneer to maximise the sale value and apply discretion to reserves etc.

eBay, on the other hand, run a few servers.

Then again, auction houses manage to charge a 'premium' to both the seller and the buyer - I doubt even eBay would think they could get away with that one :lol:

So why not get a ebay shop, it is not expensive.

I have 2 shops Dr. Honeydew, they cost £25 a month just for the shop without fees, the 10% relates to my wife's casual selling on e-bay, 10% is taking the piss IMO and they insist you have to accept paypal as payment which they own, nearly as bad as Amazon now!

You're right David, it's a total rip off, no one minds paying for a good quality service, but with ebay and paypal it's getting harder and harder, if you have a problem they make it plain that they would rather not get involved and don't seem to take any action on people who blatantly break the rules, they just seem to want to sit back and rake it in.
