Splitting WAVs into MP3

I have a load of WAV and CUE files which work fine on Foobar. I also have them as FLACs. The WAVs, CUEs and FLACs are all one file per album, not per track.

I want to convert the WAVs or FLACs to MP3 for the media player on my phone. I have no problem converting whole albums into single MP3 files, the only issue of course is that I can't the pick or skip individual tracks.

I've tried a few ways to split and convert these single image files into one file per track - and retain them as albums. So far I've not found a simple way to do this. I can split the WAV files in Foobar and have a CUE file, then I need to convert to MP3 but I loose the CUE files so the tracks are not arranged as an album.

If you've followed me this far I hope you have some advice for me! Ideally splitting and converting to MP3 in one operation.....

It's a Blackberry, I really don't know what it expects......I'll have to research it. Probably meta-data.

I also have a Sony MP3/ATRAC player so I suppose I'm after a universal solution but I don't expect one exists.

Have you checked using MP3Tag or whatever that the Album name etc is the same in the meta-data of all the split tracks?

I'll try to gather up the energy........I almost always listen to albums anyway, without a simple solution I may just stick with single files. But I will research it when bored in hotels!

Thanks Keith for looking, I have used mp3tag and will investigate further but the work involved sounds like a lot of work for 500 CDs.

Use Foobar to split the files using the cue sheets - if the cue sheets have the track titles then it will embed the titles etc as metadata.
If your cue sheets just say track 1, track 2 etc. then you're buggered :doh:

If you want to convert to MP3 then you might have to instal the LAME plugin to Foobar.

If you're unsure whether or not the track titles are embedded in the cue sheet you can use wordpad to read it.

This is where I started. 10 hours to convert to single file MP3s so I have this done. The file names give track number and name. I need to look deeper.

This looks promising and easy to setup the files names. Any adice how to structure the files names or do I really need to reply on the MP3 tag info embedding?

I don't think it'll be totally automatic, but one way is to use the name of the album, and then the splitter will append numbers for each track. Still worth checking out I think. E.g album1,album2,album3 etc.

If you right click on the cue sheet you get the option to "open with" so select Foobar.
Foobar will open and start playing.
It will also have all the tracks listed seperately.
All the tracks should be highlighted (if not do so), so right click on the highlighted files and you get the option to convert - choose the middle option - it's marked as .....

A box will open with "converter setup" - it's pretty self explanatory.
When you've set your required parameters up click convert, and Foobar will do the job and to seperate tracks.

Thanks Chris, that's sort of what I did to convert them all to MP3 files in the first place. Maybe all I need to do is to alter "Name format" on the Convert Setup window. At the moment it's set to just %title%. Is there a recommended setup, eg %album%artist%tracknumber%track% or some such thing, I'm not sure of the syntax.

It seems to work now I've input a sensible name format, the Blackberry sees it as an album now, phew! Another 10 hours of conversion now but it's automatic so that's ok. Thanks guys!

I've just finished ripping a CD to a single, big wav. and cue sheet using EAC, then opening the cue sheet in Foobar and converting the file to seperate MP3 files in a directory that I specified.

End result is 9 MP3 files @ 320kbps CBR

No hitches, and no fancy tagging settings either.

I was able to do that previously but my Blackberry only saw the individual tracks, now that I've changed the file naming default it works, I can albums.
