Yes sorry about that, i realized it was rather ignorant of me. I'm looking for a new amplifier having sold my audiolab 8000s recently, but can assure you it is not the only reason i joined the forum, i value any expert advice and looking around here it seems there are a lot of people who know what they are talking about. I have tried several combination's, also different cabling, i currently have a marantz 63 ki cd player and a pair of mordaunt short ms 10i classics on stands. I'm more toward the budget end at the moment due to limited funds but am trying to get that illusive perfect sound by trying out different combination's via the 'used' market.
As you can probably tell, i'm no expert and any help/suggestions would be most welcome.. My musical taste's are wide and varied but i'd say classic rock is probably my fave type of music.

Hi Kaz, and welcome to AoS. We have had a few ladies join, but I'm afraid you are very much in the minority with hifi - which is surprising really, as you have better ears and often better taste than us blokes! :)

I had a CD63 KI Sig/8000S combo for many years, and loved it. Others are a bit critical of the bright/analytical sound of both of those, but worked for me. If you haven't already done so, ask away for some amp advice.

If you sold the Audiolab I take it you found it lacking in some way?

Hi all and thanks for the welcome. I am looking for an amplifier which one may describe as more 'rythmic' and less 'clinical' my own little bit of research throws up the pioneer a400 and the naim nait 3. What do you guys think?

Always nice to welcome a female member to this, at times, testosterone-heavy forum. We are always interested in a woman's perspective on this hobby of ours. :)

If it were me, I would go for the Naim NAIT 3. However it is close to your limit, and a recent (2 minutes ago) examination of samples up for auction on eBay, show bids exceeding your limit. :(

Keep you eye open; eBay is not the only source.

No doubt other members might have some alternative suggestions for you.

Hi Kaz, I have not heard a Pioneer A400, but most dealers have said that everybody wanted one because of the rave reviews at the time, despite the fact that in their opinion it was very over rated and could take the skin off your teeth with it's brightness.
Others on here may say differently. I liked the sound of my Audiolab but sold it on some years ago to try something different. Class A (transistor) is what I use now, which seems to do all things to all men (and Ladies of course) good as a room heater as well.
If you want to try Class A try to find a Musical Fidelity A1, should be about £100.

Keep an eye out for a Marantz PM7200 (or a PM80 which is an older version of same). A surprisingly musical and capable amp which can usually be had for comfortably less than £200.
