View Full Version : Motor for Systermdek TT?
I need a new motor to get my deck back running again. The old motor is an Airpax 60 hz 110 volt AC jobbie - I've tried searching t'internet with no luck and I'm now all out of ideas - are they still available? What would work as a replacement?

Is it not the same as the Linns/AR/Regas?

No I don't think so - my sparky reckons it's a motor for the US mains they have just stepped it down with a resistor (or something like that). It's all pretty simple I could fit a new one myself if I could find one with the same spec.

You'll also need a step down transformer to get 110V.
Best bet would be to adapt some other similar motor unit that runs on 240V/50Hz, but you'll need to get the pulley correctly sized then so it runs at the correct speed(s).
A spare part unit from an actual Systemdek, UK edition would be best. Something might show up on ebay.
cheers Brett - but what I need is a motor of identical spec to the busted one as it doesn't need a transformer (don't ask me why).

There is an old thread HERE (http://www.vinylengine.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4613) that might be helpful in your search.

Thanks Stan
That got me as far as this:

Note it says use a 6.8 kohm resistor in series if usinga 240v supply - that seems to be how my exisiting motor is wired. Am I on the right track here?

Martin just take note that the actual speed is Governed buy the Pulley step Vs Sub platter diameter.

Yes, understood - I'm not going to change any of those bits - my thinking is just get a motor the same spec as the old one and it's plug and play - but finding one is not easy. I'm quite surprised.

Providing the shaft diameter is the same as yours i don't see why the New Rega motor & electronics wont do the job!

Nobody has a shaft diameter like mine!

Nope, needs to be 110v and 60hz. Thanks anyway Chris:)
These motors don't come in 50hz and 60hz versions, they just go faster on 60hz, so they are fitted with smaller pulleys. Also, they have two windings which are connected in series for 240v and parallel for 120v, with various resistors and capacitors to ensure that one winding leads the other so the platter doesn't rotate backwards.

I 'might' have finally found it...
Formerly known as Airpax, they are now made under the Premotec name in Holland. The UK agent, Mclennan Servo Systems, lists the motor specifically for turntables as the model 9904 111 31813. See the last item on the bottom of the page HERE (http://www.mclennan.co.uk/product/acsynchronousmotors.html)
