Our Signatures

It's a small thing, but I have made an important change to my signature. I doubt anyone would notice, but it was necessary for me to do it to preserve the correct order of things.

I have just switched the positions of my CD player and turntable, the latter now stated as my primary source. Much thought went into it.

Does anyone else find each other's signatures fascinating? Rather like studying handwritten signatures, giving a potential clue (or red herring) to the persona of the owner?

Click User CP (Control Panel) on the top bar.
Click Edit Signature in the left column
Add text and formatting into the text box. Preview Signature to check what you've done
If desired, add a small signature picture by clicking Browse and then Upload
Click Save Signature when done

Well i list my gear in the "my gear " section of "about me" , i'm not too bothered about a big list of kit being displayed on every post, if someone wants to check out what i've got, they can click on my name and mooch around on my page.

You're a daftee - there's nothing wrong with your gear! If you check out what I wrote when you first joined, you'll see that I referred to it as a classic Linn/Naim system ;)

But all I hear is the Ivor brainwashing sales scenario with for some reason always Naim in the mix? I sense bad feeling from other dealers who lost out in the sales pitch? and lost money. But to be honest I don't really care about them and their whiny ways...:lol:

I'm not to bothered as I like my system and think it sounds good.

To be honest I've spent the best part of 20 years building it up so couldn't afford to change now even if I wanted to.

Sometimes a forum like this makes you question your choice. Which is not a bad thing to be honest but you sometimes follow a blind path which costs you money and robs you of your initial enjoyment. Its fine if you can change components willy nilly but if your like me and can only spare 5p per month it becomes hard to bare...:doh:

I think you have it slightly wrong there. I think most people here recognise that much of both Linn and Naim's gear is/was exceptionally good at what it does and respect it for that. Probably most of us just have different requirements. The negative comments are usually about modern pricing structures and marketing techniques (i.e. the companies rather than the actual products).
I, for one recognise that the LP12 has some huge strengths, but it just doesn't deliver the things I look for in a TT. However, I can easily sit in front of one for an entire evening and enjoy the music it presents, as it can be hugely entertaining.

As for signatures, I stopped putting my kit in mine when I realised Marco had a bigger one than me and that I could never compete (ooh-er missus!). I was so mentally damaged about the whole situation that I even started a thread about it!

What I also like about Dave's choice of components is that they've obviously been judiciously selected by ear (from my Linn/Naim days, I know these things ;)), and so you can tell that it's a culmination of 20 years of careful system-building, rather than merely a 'wet dream' system, bought by someone with more money than sense!

I'd be dang proud as a peacock to have just about anything but that. Oh, and that little white plastic thing that comes up and out of the plinth to check for the presence of a record subsequently scratching the farghe out of it... ...oh, yeah... Joking aside, I don't think I've ever witnessed ridiculing of member's systems... Unless you've got QED Silver Anniversary speaker cable of course! :)

Honestly though, everyone has their own tastes and budgets, and I don't think anyone would ever judge anyone else - well, they'd be in trouble if they did!

I have absolutely no experience of Naim gear within my own system, but have heard their stuff at exhibitions.

Had access to a Linn LP12 for about a year, and could use it (with a Grace 707 arm and AKG P8ES cartridge) in my system. Twas OK, but I heard nothing to make me want to replace my Thorens 124/II.

One thing though - the AKG P8ES was mine, on loan. The borrower later claimed it had been lost! :steam: Bugger! - It was a damm fine cartridge.

Does anyone have one they want to sell me? :rolleyes:

I followed a lot of blind alleys in earlier years, wasted money on components that didn't fit with the sound I wanted. It's all experience to learn from, really. If you've spent 20 years building your system then be proud and publish! I can't see anyone in AoS pointing fingers.

I list my kit in my sig so people will have an idea where I'm coming from in discussions. None of it was expensive and none of it is anything special (except maybe the Croft pre) so nothing to boast about.

I think it's a shame that not everyone lists their kit. Like Alex I can't ever recall any finger pointing on AOS, that would get slaped down pretty fast if it was to ever happen I think:)

As for regretting your Linn/Naim system (Mr Fish) - nuts!;) I bet it sounds awesomely good. If you ever want a swap...
