Hi Guys,
Can anybody suggest a quiet CPU fan for my PC? It's an HP Multimedia with a Pentium 4 and the existing fan is so loud I'm thinking of throwing it out the window! :steam:
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I had the same problem, mine sounded like a plane taking off.
I use noctua fans throughout my pc now, maybe a you can get a cheaper fan,but they are very good and extremly quite.
Papst can be trusted with your life when it comes to reliability.
Noctua and the Scythe Slip Stream series are good and quiet.
What size are you looking for?
Also using Noctua fans here, nice and quiet.
Knock yourself out :¬)

To save you the hassle of having to read it all...
The best fan of the bunch was the Noctua, which overcame our skepticism and lived up to its hype by producing more airflow at lower speeds. Its airflow-to-noise ratio is its best feature, which gives it enough of an edge to make up for its slightly rougher noise character. The Noctua has seen recommendations around the web, and we have no qualms about adding our own to the list.

I have one of these in my desktop PC http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/product/45201/arctic-cooling-freezer-7-lp-socket-775-cooler and it's very quiet.
I use Noctua fans as well, a tad more exepnsive but very quiet and very reliable.
Lots of quiet fans here http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/casefans
Are you just looking for a fan or a CPU cooler with fan attached?

I just want something that isn't so noisy. It cuts in and out when required but, since I've been suffering from tinnitus lately, it just seems to aggravate it when it's running. I guess if I get a fan and cooling it will run for less of the time so that's probably a better solution to just replacing the fan.
Not sure of what size I need, just that it's a 2.8 MHz Pentium 4 in a tower, so there's plenty of room above the CPU. I just want to be sure what I buy will have the right attachment.
I leave the PC on 24/7 till I get a NAS (can't make up my mind what to get yet) and I'm getting hypersensitive to the fan noise and can even hear it cut in and out at night when I'm in bed 2 rooms away.
Eventually this PC it will be replaced but I'll still use it occasionally, so don't mind spending a few quid making it a bit quieter.
I'll check out the recommendations and let you know how I go. :)

Noctua fans are excellent. I used them in PC's I have had and they really made a difference for the better.
