I am Juha, a Finn living in the medieval Old Town of Tallinn, Estonia. I have been into hifi since the mid-seventies.

For a long time I had ESS AMT speakers, Quad 405 and a Luxman turntable. I liked that "Sound as Clear as Light" - Dr. Heil tweeter.
Later bought a Thorens 160 super with a Micro Seiki arm. I was so much into ESS that I also have the AMT Monitors. This was until
I heard the Magneplanar sound.

The tall Magneplanar MG 2.5/RT speakers are fantastic and problematic. Firstly, the 80 cm ribbon tweeters are very fragile.
I have fixed them a few times. Secondly, every 2 years I get the order from the wife - "Put those big ugly speakers out of
the living room". I switch to conventional boxes. I have rare passive Genelec 1050A speakers. But in the end, I am hooked on ribbon.
I love the euphoric broad soundscape.

Music is mostly jazz. Jazz classics and Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton. Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, etc.

I have been reading and enjoying the AoS for about 6 months. Decided to register and post now, because somebody was saying it was too quiet here. I will post a picture and full equipment list to the Gallery.

Hi Juha - and welcome to the forum. :)

Estonia? - a wonderfully musical country - several world famous contemporary classical composers come from there. I would guess that it is equally lively when it comes to jazz.

Some great hifi kit you have as well. your old ESS AMT speakers - I would love to hear those. Yes, it would be excellent if you posted some photos of your gear in the forum's gallery section.

I seen Larry and Lee play a few times really tasteful fusion players
I hope you enjoy your time here and look forward to the pictures

Hi Juha, and thanks for joining - welcome!

At least we know it's not just English wives with an intolerance to big speakers!

Yes - some photos would be great sometime. Enjoy the forum. :)

Welcome to AoS Juha.

I was in Tallinn a couple of months ago. The old part of Tallinn (within the city walls) is beautiful and very photogenic.

Interesting system you have there Juha. I'm a bit of a Quad enthusiast myself and use, amongst others, a 520f power amp.

Enjoy the forum

Hi Juha,

I too love the sound of the Heils. The highs are airy, open and fast!

I have the small floorstander Syrinx, made by Precide here in Switzerland. In a month or 2, I will also have a pair of the standmounted Aulos Heil speakers as well. I intent to listen them together in a WALL of Sound configuration. This works as all Heil AMT speakers are perfectly in phase. The soundstge will be much larger as a result.
