View Full Version : BBC Glasto coverage...
Ok I know it's not what it was, and that the BBC are partially responsible for the 'sanitisation' of Glastonbury...hence I've not been since 2004.
However for what it's worth they have improved their website coverage, and not only do they have the usual 6 music coverage but they are also broadcasting live...Ok only from the Other/NME(for the older punters) stage at the moment, but it looks promising...

...at the very worst you can watch the first spots of tonight's deluge coming down...whilst you crack open another bottle of red ;)

I girded up my loins last night (Friday) to watch the Glasto coverage on the Beeb. Mt first impression was that BB King is suffering somewhat! :scratch:
I then caught a band that was a blast of fresh air - called Heliocentrics! They were a tonic - sort of avant-garde jazz/ african rythm fusion. I wonder if they will release a record called "the Sun Ra world of Heliocentrics"?
I was so impressed, and probably a little drunk! I went to Amazon and purchased a CD. I will have to wait now with bated breath for it to drop through my letter box.

Ah relief! So it's not just me then? After a terrific piece about Marcia Ball in a rarely seen Blues TV series hosted by Clint Eastwood (the white one, not the other one!) I bought one copy of everything available then by her on eBay. Everything! Big big mistake.
What the clearly shrewd Mr Eastwood showed wasn't entirely representative of the rest of her output. Not even close. It was then I discovered that i strayed across that murky border between Blues and Jazz. I took a look around after passing through that border check point, went quickly into reverse and then immediately feel more relaxed when safely back in the Blues world.
All the Marcia Ball CDs were sold on eBay or given away.
Ah relief! So it's not just me then?
I'm sure we've all done it... I certainly have, sometimes I don't even know why a particular CD was ordered and am sometimes not even aware I ordered it until it drops through the letterbox!

Watching Elbow at Glasto on BBC Three. Is it just me or is the sound especially poor? There's almost no highs and I've had to turn my REL Strata sub off to stop the kick drum drowning everything out.

Noticed that also. Not all the time though. Primal Scream got a good sound albeit after a shakey start. BB King also sounding good. He's eighty-five you know:)

Can't actually comment on the bbc coverage as I'm at Glasto, but what I can say is that the sound on the pyramid stage is the best I've heard in 10 years, it sounds fabulous!
Some band on now - Las Vegas - I'm not diggin it. Will be using I=player gubbins to find alternatives. Like being there! Not...

I'm watching it on tv at the mo and the sound ain't all that TBH
We were better off with the old NICAM standard. TV never sounded better.

Coldplay had a rather impressive laser show.
Just a shame I dont really like Coldplay all that much.. :)

I couldn't listen in stereo ! Too bass heavy , but was fine in pro logic ?

Yes, the bass during Elbow was ridiculous. Noah and the Whale sounded much better and the highlights of the earlier bands also sounded ok. Looking forward to Paul Simon tomorrow afternoon.

No, didn't get time, would have liked to though. We're lucky enough to know some folk and get passes to one of the backstage bars, where they always have some great bands on. Saw one chap tonight who was playing two guitars at once. Jaw dropping stuff. I'll post a wee video when I get home.
Beyonce has taken over from Kylie as my prefered choice, sad i know

I must admit that the sound quality on the TV broadcasts were variable to say the least...although by Sunday they were a little improved. I used the prologic feed.
By the way if you didn't see it check out Eels...best thing on at the festival IMHO ;)
Battles & TV on the radio are well worth checking out too...off to see battles tonight :)
Just received the CD - excellent. I do feel a fool though:doh: The group took their name from the Sun Ra recordings, as they are fans!!!

What's left of the Sun Ra Archestra played the Moseley jazz festival last year and mighty fine they were too...Jerry Dammers has also been performing of late with a kind of Sun Ra tribute Archestra, the Spatial AKA Arkestra, which is well worth seeing, a mixture of all sorts and a great live band...no wonder he doesn't want to join the reformed specials ;)
