Does anyone know what this plant is? Huge, about 10 feet high. Is it a weed? Certainly impressive. http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx309/prestonchipfryer/weed2.jpg

They do look somewhat similar, although the leaves are not as jagged.

Giant Hogweed ?
Star thistle.
Kill it before it blooms!
wet the ground ,pull it out by the roots then till the soil with rocket fuel and burn the earth 6 inches deep before it spreads!
I am wrong after reading 10 feet tall it is not from the star thistle family.
I don't know what it is... but it looks alot like star thistle when it's green just before it blossoms with razor sharp thorns that make you welt up and itch for days.
This stuff will go right through gloves,Levis it can cover a whole large field in one spring/summer.
If it even looks like it is starting to thorn, kill it first even if it's the only known giant star thistle on Earth. Man kind will do better with out a 10 foot Monster Star Thistle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centaurea_solstitialis

I would cut off a sample and take it and a copy of your picture to a nursery and ask what it is.
The stems are to thick for it to be star thistle and the leaf is close but not quit right and it would be to big to retain it's leaves.
It may not look like much but it can flatten a tire and it's poisonous too. (and bees love it).

Blimey, better get combat gear to attack this bugger. Well okay, not combat but gloves and a flame weedkiller to burn it away. :lolsign:
