Computer based head-fi system

This has been my system for a few years now. I did have a traditional hifi of CDP, amp, speakers with a headphone amp and some Grados, but I gave all of that to a friend in need, keping the headphone amp and cans. Various house moves and compromised speaker positioning meant a head-fi based system made sense. It really took off when I got an ipod for Christmas and then one of the original invites for Spotify. All my CDs are in the loft and all my listening is off itunes and mainly the internet, including You Tube and Grooveshark.

Nice shots Ian and a man after my own heart. I just sold my MF X-Cans V2 and will shortly buy a Matrix M-Stage headamp, to go with my Senny HD650's. I'm thinking of treating myself to some HD800's, but still pondering that one :scratch:

Left to right, Grado SR80 - Quadraflex 40A - Panasonic EAH-500 - Sony DR 4C - Sony DR 5A and almost hidden at the end a Pioneer SE-305.

The Quadraflex is from a chain of US hifi shops and was made by Pioneer, based on their most beautiful cans ever, the SE L-40

which occasionally come up on eBay, but mint ones are well over £100.

I have a X-CANS modified by Rock Grotto as well. DAC wise all I have used is the one in The X-CANV8P and my present Firestone. I cannot say I hear any significant difference. I am a bit of objectivist who thinks headphones/speakers are where you should concentrate your time and spending.

Thanks for that, Ian. The Quadraflex are right up my street, absolutely gorgeous, and no doubt sound fab! :)

If any come up on eBay for £100, I should think they'd be a veritable bargain.

The Quadraflexs cost me £12 and you should pay no more than £20, more if you really want some and import from North America. The sound is OK.
