Ripping classical music

What's the best software for this? I've used dBpoweramp for my other music but it doesn't seem to be able to distinguish between the three CDs that make up Karajan's Carmen with Agnes Baltsa - thinks every CD is CD 1 and wants to overwrite

I take it you're registered with AMG

Sometimes there are issues with rarer cd's

Try <alt m> to take you to the metadata screen, you can see what's going on and do some editing ;)

Looks like the online database is tagged incorrectly, which unfortunately is not an uncommon occurrence.

Most CD sets tend to come show up as CD1, CD2 etc, so it isn't necessarily a problem.
You can edit the information before you rip the tracks - I've got to go out right now, but I'll post up the way I've set dbPoweramp up for multiple disc sets when I return later.

By AMG I meant...

PerfectMeta (AMG, GD3, SonataDB, MusicBrainz & freedb)

...however I believe that R14 has that bundled in already, I'm on 13.n and I have to renew it each year.

As Chris says often the CD numbering can be messy on boxed sets, but as long as the track info is OK then adding a suffix of 'Disc n' to the end of the album title is not an issue, nor the disk n/n tag, just do it before you rip.

As I said earlier press alt/m and you will see all of the meta data retrieval, one supplier might be better than another and you can choose to override the combined results.

I've set up dbPoweramp to do this when I'm ripping multiple disc sets

[artist]\[album]\CD[disc]\[track] - CD[disc] - [title]

I've found that done this way Squeezebox Server has no issues reading multiple disc sets for what they are.
If you set dbPoweramp the same way as I have then be sure to remove additional information suffixes (ie CD1, CD2 type information) before you rip - all of the album titles should read identically.

Thanks Chris. I'll do what you say. I've also just discovered about dBpoweramp's abilities to grab data from different providers! And it does make a difference!!
