How are you finding the Cambridge Audio Blu Ray I have been thinking about replacing my Panasonic BD60 with the CA unit.

Have they released many firmware updates ?

Nice clean & tidy looking system, i like it :) The pics (a couple) are only slightly too big in all honesty & nothing to fuss over imo. However you might consider downloading Picasa 3 to resize if you haven't already got it, it's free ;) I find that about 1050 pixels width is about ideal on here as a maximum :cool:

It'd have to be damn good to outperform the Panny picture wise. I won't be replacing my BD80 for a good few years :eyebrows:

Thanks guys. Well, I am pretty pleased with the CA unit, as it is pretty universal and I have a stack of SACDs that I wanted to play properly. The only issue I have with CA gear is that it can sound a little analytical and thin. The CD player in the Naim, on the other hand, really rocks! I use the optical connection to connect the two units together, because the Naim has an excellent DAC built in and is probably better than the CA one.

The rack is a Blok Stax 600 (custom made in teak and slightly wider dimensions) and it is excellent in qualiity.

I do use Picasa 3, Mark, and I didn't know I could resize. I use the Linux o/s so would imagine I could still do this.

If it's installed on your PC & usuable then you'll be able to resize. You can also not just resize, but compress which might slightly lower picture quality but makes a pic the same size a smaller file if needs be ;)

If i remember correctly if you double click on a picture imported to Picasa you'll find all kind of picture options, it's an impressive bit of software :cool:



Echoing what someone else asked, what is the rack? Nice looking bit of kit that & no doubt very sturdy :eyebrows:

Looks like solid wood rather than something veneered :) Beautiful rack, if i didn't have so much stuff to clean i'd consider something like that :)

As for the rack - it's very nice, but it looks like a veneer to me - compare the figuring on the sides to the fronts - it's not consistent with the structure of a solid piece of wood.
Not that this is necessarily a bad thing at all.

Well, the side blocks are, in fact, solid teak. I know this because the whole assembly was flat-packed and is self-assembly. Three huge boxes! In fact, the factory had difficulty in drilling the countersink holes at the bottom to facilitate assembly, and they had to send a replacement part to enable the whole lot to fit together. The wood was so hard and dense the drill could not drill the hole properly.

Anyway, it got sorted. The grain doesn't follow, because of the order I put the unit together. In hindsight, I suppose I ought to have taken more care, but didn't think of it at the time. :doh:

Interesting, so it must be quarter-sawn then, otherwise I don't know how the darker vertical bands in the figure could show on both the front and the sides like that. Either that, or a veneer on the face edges, but why would anyone do that?
Sorry, this is pretty irrelevant really - whichever way you (or they!) cut it, it's a lovely piece of furniture.

All the Blok Stax side supports are solid wood, which is why their racks are so expensive. It's a nice piece of furniture too... ;)

That's a very nice system you have there Dave, although I can't help thinking that your Thorens would be better off sat on the top deck of the rack... :cool:

True, but I've nowhere else to put the display panel.

It is a superb bit of furniture, and I intend to keep that for a very, very long time!

I believe now that I have the ultimate (for me anyway) hi-fi system. The Naim is built like a tank and it will last me a lifetime.

My strategy now is to buy (while the income is reasonably good :lol: ) the very best stuff that I will be satisfied with and which will last a lifetime. This is because the new job is only likely to last for three years and, after that, we are likely to downsize and have a simpler, stress-free life - so I want to get the good stuff before I find I can no longer afford it! :lol:

So getting the classically "good" stuff: Naim, Linn, Quad (any more I can add?) will be a good investment for me.
