On a healthy eating mission at the moment :eyebrows:

What is your BMI? ( Body mass index)

http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyweightcalculator.aspx

I am just slightly overweight at 26.55
(height of 1.75 metes and 81.3 kg)

Healthy is between 18.5 and 25

I did get down to a BMI of just below 25 last year, was hard though as I like cakes...

Another one here for those with iPhones without flash and measure the weight and height in old money

http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

I come in at 24.8 on that one ... Just within normal weight ... I bet any money I'm in a minority amongst sofa dwelling hobbyists ;)

What is it 65% of the uk population are over weight ... Fatties! PUT DOWN FORK!

I'm still slightly overweght, according to my BMI, but am pleased with the stone and a half I've lost so far. Currently comfort eating (as much as my diabetes allows), so my weight loss has stagnated in recent weeks, but I hope to get another stone off.

I'm officially a fat c***. Still, I'm not obese any more, though still need to lose some more (lost 25 pounds last year, only put 4 back on, but need to start being good again.) Not drinking in the week should be helping but I'm sure it gets harder to shift the pounds as you get older.

I'm bang in the middle of the 'healthy' range. These numbers are hexadecimal, right?

21.46... Bang in the middle! Not bad.

Trying to bulk up though - I've managed to lose over half a stone in the last few months without trying :/

Body weight tables tell lies

This is the best site I know on the subject

Absolute trumped up hogwash...

My BMI is 23, suggesting I'm bang on, when I was fitter playing football and training more regularly my BMI was about 25, due to the additional muscle. And I was definitely fitter then...no account is made of the composition of that weight, muscle? fat?

No account is taken of 'frame' at all, so stocky people will tend to loose out

I'm particularly entertained by the site Laberum linked to where BMI is expressed as Kg/M2, kg per square meter!!! Shocking maths...;)

Hahaha!
I don't know what you mean - that's surely a perfectly reasonable way of calculating things - your weight in relation to the size of your feet!

I took that out when I realised that is indeed the calculation...

"The formulae universally used in medicine produce a unit of measure of kg/m2"

...

I suppose it accounts for an exponential increase in weight due to height, but a bit ropey to say the least

Dodgy as hell, I reckon.
I thought I was overweight & so I discussed it with my doctor, so he weighed me the other day & told me I'm 8 foot 4 inches tall.

...indeed, I've been putting some height on lately myself ;)

The only reliable method is the %age body fat calculations, but to do that correctly requires a lot of kit, not just pinching someone's waist.

I love the way the NHS holds the BMI up as a benchmark, whilst most of it's nurses have calves that hang over their shoes

Seems to be to be as valid (or not) as deciding what a amp will sound like from its TID figure.
