Apologies if this has been done before (in different form) but you have a choice of 5 films to take to your desert island. What would'st they be?

For me:

1. Airplane!
2. The Lives of Others
3. Dr Strangelove
4. American Beauty
5. Blade Runner

Thought it would be worth making it difficult! :)

You're absolutely right of course, 5 really isn't enough.

If you like old English war films (although this isn't as old as the DB's though of course) have you seen the re-mastered Battle of Britain? It was done a few years ago now, but it gives you a choice of music soundtrack - either the *original Ron Goodwin or the William Walton version. The Walton version gives the film a harder edge to it - well worth hearing it.

*Walton actually wrote the original music track, but at the time it was considered a little too 'adventurous' (ie not as easy listening as RG's) hence why Ron Goodwin was called in and the film was released to cinema with his music. Still, it's very good - and having worked with RG a few times he was a true gentleman.

I think i'm getting there...Whilst i love sci-fi i guess you have to think out of the box for something like this

Into The Wild (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758/)
THX 1138 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066434/)
Jeremiah Johnson (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068762/)
Finding Nemo (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266543/) :eyebrows:
Contact (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118884/)

However, if i could include documentaries rather than just films on a disc it'd be different ;)

Once Upon a Time in the West

Both superb films. Sergio Leone was a master director.

Yep - these kids today have no idea with all their fast cutting - maybe it is my age but it ruins a lot of contemporary films for me

Oldboy

For me in no particular order

Raging bull
Taxi Driver
Mean Streets
Fight Club
Planet of the Apes (the original)

For the last one I could have gone with either Alien or Bladerunner as well but I've loved Planet of the Apes since I was kid and is a film I've watched too many times.

Haha!

Glad to see some dudes on here :¬)

1. The Big Lebowski

That rug really tied the room together!

2. Aliens

They're comin' outta the god damn walls!

3. Terminator 2

Chillout, dickwad.

4. Avatar

I want this mission high and tight, I wanna be home for dinner.

5. Bill Hicks - Revelations

(A positive drug story on the news) Today a young man on Acid realised that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death. Life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather.

Honorary 6. Transformers the Movie [original animated version]

Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost...

Close calls...

Leon
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Heat
Pans Labyrinth
Man on Fire
Predator
Team America

+ more I can't remember right now :¬)

Heat
Man on Fire

Two absolutely stunning action films, in my opinion. Superbly directed and acted, thought-provoking and eminently re-watchable. Mandatory in any good collection.

I'm too polite to say what I think about the foregoing selections as a whole (apart from The Big Lebowski). Even Old Boy pales in comparison to Zatoichi. Bet I get some stick now! Geoff.
