I've decided to join over here, as there seems to be a wide spectrum of posters combined with a greater tolerance to opinions and experiences than that found in other places!
I have two systems. One of these has just gone through a major change as a result of box swapping in my second. System was a Meridian 808, Lavardin IT and Harbeth C7ES2. Having discovered the Audio Note 'sound', this is now all AN ~ CD3, Meishu and AN/e. Unfortunately, I don't get to listen to this system much (it's in a different location to where I mainly live). It is my 'retirement' system ~ now not that long away, hopefully.
My everyday system is a SB3>Audio Synthesis DSM>Rogue Audio Cronus>Keswick Audio Bluepoint. I also have a Harmon Kardon HD990 for the occassional CD and as a DAC for other sources (e.g. Sony MD).
So, where do I sit on the subjectivist/objectivist 'fence'? Well, I think there is room for all views and nobody is 'right' or 'wrong'. I've experienced the difference in cables, mains, etc., but these are, to me, something to address once the components have been sorted. Others may have a different opinion ~ that's fine by me!
It seems to me that all of life is subjective. Nobody can know how others perceive or react to the world. Whilst many things can be 'measured', our individual responses to external stimuli (measured, measurable or not) are all very individual, whether it be music, art, landscapes, et al. I certainly take a dislike to those who tell me how I ought to respond!
Having now been intererested in hifi for well over 35 years (first system was a Pioneer PL12D/SA5300 combo in to Celestion Hadleighs), I've had so many different amps, speakers, sources, etc that I do have quite an experience base on which to draw ~ experience I'm always willing to share, if asked.
