There seems to always be threads about songs you have being listening to lately but there always never is a thread about albums you have being listening to lately. Yes albums! So this thread about albums which you always find yourself listening to from beginning to the end without skipping any track (or at least skipping is kept to a minimum level. )

Me first:

Indeed, but great you're getting stuck in Mohammad! :)

I don't have that particular album by Howe Gelb, but I'll give it a go! Do you also like his main "project" - Giant Sand? (Think I'll put some on now! :))

@Alex: Well to be honest I have discovered him not long ago, only beginning of this year. So I must go and find that album. Thanks for the suggestion :-)

Moe, just been looking at your welcome post and noticed this
old persian classical music.
Now that's a genre I know nothing about and would be interested to get some recommendations?

If we are talking about music that features the oud, a variety of flute and various hand drums than this might give you a little taste.

it would be my pleasure. Since I dont want to scare you off may I ask in terms of middle eastern music what countries have you listen to so far? Because I have some nice Indian/Persian fusion which will make this journey ever so more enjoyable.
:-)

And another important question would be whether you prefer vocal presentation or instrumental?
Unlike Indian classical music persian music is based on instrument while indian classical music is vocal oriented, meaning they must be able to play all the thing once can produce with ones voice.

dear friend Oud is not a traditional instrument of Persia. While it usage has being seen more often now days in persian concert its position and role is to fill in the background noise and does not play any key role.
Music of Iran out dates their offical religion, I know one instrument which was change after the invasion of Arabs to Iran and after the Islam becoming its official religion, the rest all outdates religion and most civilization in Asia minor region. Just in case you are wondering what is the name of the instrument, it is called Tabur which comes in different forms.

From this genre I only know the music of Azam Ali, Niyaz, Zakir Hussain, Fateh Ali Khan and Shaukat Hussain. I would be very glad if you offered me more names of artists, since I like this type of music.

Please try this, as the traditional mastero might be to overwhelming for new comers to this music.
