What sort of music do you like?


Pretty much everything except heavy metal. I have a soft spot for melody, and I'm sentimental enough to enjoy country. I particularly like good lyrics. I've been doing this for a while (early 60s) so I've acquired a bit (plenty of vinyl, hence the Michel Gyro!). I've got 493 bands in my database list (most of which I'd be happy to listen to). I'm partial to opera (including, or even particularly, Wagner). I've yet to discover jazz - I'm sure it will come but I've never had a good guide. What am I listening to at the moment? Emmylou Harris, The Low Anthem (but only Boeing 737!), Eliza Carthy, The Clash, Fleet Foxes, REM, Captain Beefheart, Springsteen, Mumford & Sons, Salif Keita, Neil Young, Doris Day (Que Sera Sera - oh yes!!)

Thanks for that Anthony - a great eclectic selection there. Most of us here have very broad tastes, so I'm sure you'll fit in very well along with being a Quad owner. :)

If you want a hundred-and-one different suggestions on where to start with jazz, why not start a thread, and we'll all throw in our 2p worth, and confuse you completely! ;) Just been playing some Ronnie Laws and Nina Simone myself - great Sunday morning music. :)
