Sansui AU-20000

I owned one of it's little brothers for a while, the AU-9900. Sadly, an incompetent tech completely trashed it. I was mad as ...........!!! :steam: In fact, that's why I started servicing and building my own gear. The 9900 was a pretty good sounding amp despite having tons of features and had enough power to blow grammy through the doggy door. I can only imagine the 20000 sounding even better. Even if it doesn't... ...it's got cool meters!!! :)

The Pioneer SA 9100 just lovelly to look at not a bad amp and as a pre very good indeed
Dislike the 1060 Lets just say its either a sound you love or hate. No idea why its rated so high

I own a lovely mint Pioneer SX950 from the mid 70s with lovely teak sides and top. Its a monstrous amp all silvery and glowy at night.

Great sound as well. I often mean to try it with my LP12 instead of the Naims just to compare.

I would defiantly buy another one if something happened to this one...:)

For sound and build, the Accuphase E-202. I have one here now and it's as good as new along with it's matching tuner.

Thanks for that great link John .. I have just bought a 9090 Sansui receiver pretty much on impulse and have not had chance to fire it up yet. By all accounts I could be in for a pleasant surprise .. I hope .. :)

I had an old JVC in the 70's, can't remember the model number but I'm pretty sure 31 was in it somewhere, I think it was 31 wpc.

I replaced that with a second hand Leak valve amp/pre combo (20wpc I recall), but I suppose that doesn't count as it was probably from the 60s.

How you chaps can remember the model no's from 40 years ago is beyond me...time to watch Rain Man again :lol:

Ultra-rare Dynavector valve monoblocks in blue hammer finish. They sounded fantastic but I've never found anything on the web about them.

Accuphase build like no other. Takes 15 minutes to get the cover off and then everything inside is in it's own little shielded case. Nothing is too much trouble and it shows. The E202 I have is 36 approx years old and every last control works as smoothly, sweetly and positively as they did from new.

Then there's the styling. All those lovely knobs, buttons and meters - maybe not necessary for the sound but they sure are 'toys for the boys'.

Apart from my Michell double deck ( :ner: ), the Accuphase amp and tuner are the first items that visitors make a bee-line for.

I've only ever owned one - my current amp, the Harman Kardon A402. Built by Hitachi in Japan, in 1978 that was the highest accolade.
