I've frequented hifi fora for a number of years, starting with Hifi Choice when it was a thriving lively forum!
I came across this place when someone referred to it at a different forum, and although it is really only my first day here, from what I've seen so far it looks good!
I've been "into" hifi for more years than I can remember, or more accurately won't admit to, and my first ever set up was a Thorens TD 150, Goldring G800 cart, Leak Stereo 30 Plus, and Wharfedale Super Linton's, that should give you some idea how long it's been!
Edit to add: Just noticed folk mention their kit here, so my current set up is: Squeezebox Touch, (replaced a £1500 cd player!) Theta Pro ProGeny dac with it's fancy anti jitter box and upgraded psu, Lyngdorf SDAi 2175, into Quad 22 L2's, which came into play when the wife decided my then PMC FB1+'s were too big and the wrong colour!
I was almost in tears when the Quads arrived, as I had owned 22L's which went went in favour of the PMC's, and I looked on it as going backwards, but I have to say how wrong I was, I am very pleased with them, despite certain folk on another forum slagging them off!
My musical tastes vary from day to day, One day it's The Doors, Velvet Underground etc, the next Classical, the next The Beach Boys or Al Stewart, let's just say I have "Catholic" tastes!

Yes this is a very different forum Craig, where you can talk about your preferences and opinions without being humiliated. Debate (sometimes lively), fine no problem, your opinion is as valid as anyone else's here and your personal choices will not be held up for ridicule either.
Hi Craig, and welcome to AoS. I know bugger all about ice hockey - so slightly less than I know about hifi - but I do know you're right about this being a great forum. ;) Sure, not everyone will agree on everything, but even when we have the odd spat, I'd like to think it is civilised - pistols at dawn, rather than knuckle-dusters in a dark and dingy car park!
Have fun! :)

Hey Craig :)

Have fun mate, look forward to the banter!

Hey Gaz!
You shudda told me about this place, I'd have made the move ages back, and promised to keep my mouth shut about it too, to stop the not welcomes from coming in! :eyebrows:
Hope you enjoy you stay here
Hi Craig,
A very warm welcome to AoS :)
I recognise your name from the old HFC forum days, where you were a prolific (and knowledgeable) contributor.
I hope you become the same here. I think you'll fit into our community of friendly nutters, no problem :eyebrows:
Enjoy!

Thanks for the really nice welcome messages, most welcome, not to mention a welcome change! (How many times can a person use the welcome word in one sentence???)
Marco...me knowledgeable? Been a while since anyone has said anything like that!

Well, well ... the average quality of AOS forum members has taken yet another dive .... :eyebrows:
Hi Craig! :) ... yep, there are a nice bunch of lads here & bully boy tactics that you might have met "elsewhere" are severely frowned upon by the management - I feel sure you will find it a most congenial place to hang out.

Morning to The Forest Of Dean's most illustrious resident!
Thanks for the welcome Jerry, it will make a nice change from you know where! :)
It seems a lot of "the good guys" are here, I'm just wondering why they didn't let me know!!!!!! :)

Welcome to the dark side Craig, you know it's weird the amount of people end up at the AoS saying how different it is to other forums, and not in a bad way I might add, i hope you enjoy it:)
It seems a lot of "the good guys" are here, I'm just wondering why they didn't let me know!!!!!! :)
If you tell EVERYONE where your gold mine is, pretty soon you have no gold left
I will say though that I really am surprised you have allowed so much bullying and character assassination to go on for so long at that other place and it was one of the reasons that I no longer go there. How any intelligent forum "owner" and moderator can stand back and ignore that for so long is simply beyond any normal comprehension.
Sorry, chaps, just to clarify things without dwelling on it any further, are you talking about Wigwam?
Marco.

Yep
Ok, thanks, and noted, so let's leave it there please :)

And a warm welcome from me , craig .
Welcome Craig,
Welcome to AOS Jack.
Could you pop into the Welcome section, tell us a bit about yourself, taste in music and audio equipment. Thank you in advance.
Welcome Craig - nice to see another Al Stewart fan around.
Derek
There has been some strange editing happening, and now folk quoting themselves... What gives?
Marco.
It's just how we do things here, Jack - seems to work pretty well with most folks :)
Marco.
Lol - no worries, dude.
Marco.
You've got it wrong, not in a bad mood, I just don't want to fill out the new members post.
It's ok - you edited your last reply before I posted mine :eyebrows:
No-one's forcing you to do anything you don't wanna do. Anyway, how are your mad horns? I really liked them at Scalford

Come on fella, you have nothing to lose!
Are you the guy that must be about 6' 8" i met briefly at Scalford on the entrance table? I seem to remember coming back & getting another sticker off of you as the one stuck to my jacket fell off :eyebrows:
If so pleased to meet you once again, though you'll probably not remember me :) Not that it matters one iota ;)

Hi Jack ... so you're bringing all that anti-Craig persecution shit across from the Wigwam are you?
tsk tsk ... You're a nice guy when you try to be. Go on, give it a go. :)
Not knowing the current shenanigans happening on WW, I sincerely hope that's not the case, as we don't need that shit here!
Marco.

Believe me, Marco, that is exactly what is going on here.
I've just spoken with Craig, and he is seriously upset that this is happening now on AOS.
Given the background on the Wigwam, even a "-" from one of the bully boys there is enough to put the scare on him.
This is really really nasty stuff, I'm sorry to say. :(
I have got a PM from Craig too and he is none too happy about being targeted with the same demeaning and abusive behaviour he got elsewhere.
This is a forum for hi-fi enthusiasts where honest opinions are welcomed, not a place for continuing the treatment the guy has just escaped from.
I don't know Craig personally - but please "hang in there" mate and rest assured that Marco and the management won't tolerate that sort of behaviour, and will resolve it.
Guys, rest assured that such behaviour will not be allowed here, and that anyone guilty of it, will be banned instantly.
Jack, when you visit AoS, you must leave behind whatever has happened elsewhere. The continuation of personal disputes involving joint members of other forums will not be tolerated.
Marco.
Did any of you read my initial post which was deleted? I purely said 'Hopefully you'll get some help with your technical queries here'. Some people are too sensitive lol.
Mark,
You're getting me mixed up with James (Mr Wigwam) although tall like him I am the more handsome one. I was in the large room off reception with the 3 way horns.
Jerry,
You love to stir it up don't you, just let it lye won't you and everyone can move on. For the record I thought it was great that he was having a breather from the wam for his own sanity, not that he should. Everyone has a right to post in forums after all.
Did any of you read my initial post which was deleted?
Interesting... Why was it deleted, and by whom?
You're getting me mixed up with James (Mr Wigwam) although tall like him I am the more handsome one.
Aye, right enough (although I'm sure James would dispute that!), but you're in a league of your own with yer botty burps!!
:bum:
Marco.
Snapper was it? A mod deleted it and inserted the info about me having to fill out the welcome section, this led to our conversation last night and then me deleting my posts, this then led to Jerry suggesting that my deleted posts ie '.' as you cannot leave a blank post were in some way an aimed attack at Craig in some way. If you can make sense of it Marco then let me know buddy.
Lol... Thing is, knowing Snapper, he'd have deleted it for a reason (he doesn't just delete things folk write, willy-nilly), so I'll have to ask him what his reason was.
Anyway, without dwelling on this stuff any more than is necessary, what I don't want is 'afters' from some handbags on Wigwam raising their ugly head on here - and that applies to everyone.
Marco.
Fair enough Marco, it makes no difference to me anyway.

Aha, i certainly remember the horns ;) Yes it does look as though i was jumping the gun a bit & assuming too much :eyebrows:
They grow em big where you guys come from obviously & i'm not small at 6' 2"

Well icehockeyboy has given me stick on wigwam even though I had no right of reply, so no one is completely innocent, and those that claim it are living in their own little cuckoo land. IMO if everyone plays the ball and discusses the subject even if they disagree then everything is fine, but how many people can do this on how many forums, very few in both cases. Ad Hominem and personal attacks are a disease that spreads as one comment leads to another until the subject is lost amongst all the clutter.
I would say this happens in most threads on the other big forums, but recently not so often here. I personally would love to see it never happen, but I think we can just live in hope.
I got into trouble because I followed a philosophy that I would never initiate but if I was given it I would give it back more strongly. I have now decided it is just not worth it and at some point peace has to be declared otherwise it just leads to pointless warfare. There is nothing wrong with strong argument on a subject, forums and members benefit, but strong antagonism between member or management that is personal helps no one.

I'm sure Richard you will be happy to know that I am currently using the Sound Cords again, and really enjoying them!
Anyway, this is the "Welcome" section of the forum, and it is not for discussion of this nature. :)
Indeed. So let's end it there - cheers. In fact, I insist, as I'm about as interested in examining the contents of my last shit, as hosting the details of disputes from other forums!

Hello Craig.
You initially posted this:
I was almost in tears when the Quads arrived, as I had owned 22L's which went went in favour of the PMC's, and I looked on it as going backwards, but I have to say how wrong I was, I am very pleased with them
I'd be interested in your expanded comments on this, Craig. How do the 22L2 and FB1 compare? Thanks!
icehockeyboy
06-06-2011, 21:10
Hi, ok.....comparing the cheaper 22 L2 to the FB1+.
First off a lot of people commented on how much bass the PMC's had, in my room they were just "normal" Don't know if that was actually down to the room, or whether the people who had mentioned the bass hadn't really heard proper bass, but they didn't shake my room at all, despite the transmission line loading.
The Quads were no worse in this region, so a bonus there.
Mid range in the PMC was good, not outstanding, but good, not forward at all, which is how I like my upper mids to be.
Again, no complaints re the Quads in this respect.
Top end, sorry if I'm getting repetitive here, but again the Quads do not let them self down in front of the PMC's, and whilst there is a difference in sound (obviously) between the two, the PMC's do not sound as if they are well over twice the price.
Hence not being sad when I bade them farewell, as I had expected.
Oh, and the superb finish of the Quads is much nicer than the oak finish of the PMC's!
Hope that answers your question! :)
I'll add my welcome,
I guess your a Panthers fan !
I used to be (still am until I die) a Storm fan !

Thanks Paul. and yes I am, my old man played for the original team, but I do have mates who play for Manchester Phoenix now, one is James Neil, ring any bells? :)
I stopped following the Phoenix a while back when they had a few years out.
The atitude was forget the Storm they never exisited and that didnt sit well with me.
But I have always had a dislike for the Steelers ! (who hasnt !)
I'm more following the Bruins and Portland Pirates in the NHL & AHL now
