Clare Maguire is supposed to have been tagged as "the voice of 2011" well anyway she's only in her 20's and what a voice she has, i know for a fact she hasn't done anything across the pond yet and is concentrating on the UK at the moment, she's doing all the main festivals including Glastonbury

Good tip Dan, I saw them at last years Summer Sundae in Leicester (between Caribou & The Fall, a good night indeed), very good live, nice variety of influences/styles, I may take you up on your album recommendation :)

I saw them at the Moseley Folk Festival a few years ago, and was lucky enough to see them perform a collaboration with Tinariwen at a little place in Digbeth as well. Amazing stuff.

Latest album was pretty disappointing though :(

YEAH!!!! Checked out a couple of his other vids, too. This guy goes on my shtuff to git list. Props, it's incredibly hard to "rip" on a 12-string. His guitar must be setup extremely well, plek'd even.

(Actually I don't know whether you've heard of these folks or not, but I'll take a shot)

Peter Bruntnell - his album 'Normal for Bridgwater' is brilliant. An Amazon customer comment sums it up pretty well:


One of my favourite records and possibly the finest alt. country record, produced by a Brit. There isn't a weak track on this album - the songs have a consistent feel and laid back mood which keep you coming back. If you like The Jayhawks, Wilco, Gram Parsons et al, get this. Also, if you get the chance to see him live, take it. His young guitar playing accomplice, James, is an outstanding talent - whether ripping out firey leads or crying pedal steel-esque slide parts.
