I am living in the beautiful port town Rotterdam.
Educated as an Art Historian at the Utrecht University I am (who isn't) working since long as an IT manager for a big French/Dutch ICT company.
When I was very very young I had a small plastic (stereo-prepared) Philips record player in my attic room.
One channel went through the internal amplifier to the small loudspeaker in the (plastic) cover; the other channel went through an old fashioned big radio * (all tubes and wood and heavy) plus an extra loudspeaker upside down placed above a 'Keulse Pot'.
*) I listened to Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here', the Dutch Radio Première (Ad Visser: 'SuperClean DreamMachine'), on that radio. I have never (NEVER EVER) experienced that album that good again.
Here's my first system:

I listened to the Beatles, Who, CSN&Y, Deep Purple and many many wacky Dutch Bands. (You get the picture!)
The trick was: playing Edwin Star's 'WAR' ... running downstairs ... and convincing myself I could hear the BOOM in the street :)
Eventually I started getting interested in The Art Of Sound, next to The Art Of Music.
See my The French Connection to the Great American Sound (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11489) topic for the system.
Greetings,
