Hi everyone,

I have joined having just found you on the web. I am an old fashioned audiophile so that even now when I am due to change kit I am looking to buy old Quad models. I know that there are certain key parts that need to be replaced with age but Quad will still do that and a lot of what I have seen on the second hand market have had new capacitors at least.

I have just bought a refurbished 34 pre-amp and am looking for a 306 or 405 II. My preference is for the 306 - I don't need masses of power - but I would welcome anyone else's views on that.

Good to be with you.

Nick

Hi Nick, welcome to AoS :) You should soon be feeling pretty at home on here chap as there are a good few Quad fans on the forum ;) I even have a 33 & 303 as well as a pair of modified 405 MK1s

All the best to you, i hope you enjoy your stay

Welcome to AoS Nick.

As Mark has said, there are quite a few users of Quad gear. As a major "keeper of the flame", I have a good experience of the 405 designs and of the, almost obligatory, fettling. I'm not familiar with the 306, but we have a couple of members retired from retailing who will be along shortly and will, I'm sure, be able to help you.

What sort of music do you like to play through your gear? Oh - and what is the rest of your gear: source and speakers?

Welcome again.

Regards (from another 'old fashioned audiophile'.)

Hi Nick, from another Nick :) My system's a 33/303 combo into Rogers JR149's. You just cannot go wrong with old Quad for the money!

Welcome to the forum and hope you have a good one here.
