If the price is right i may be selling this combo from back when MF were still doing things right.

A/370 Mk11 issue 5 in very good condition apart from a few small chips in the h/sinks which is normal for these, i have black penned them and you cant see them with amp racked, otherwise faultless, It even has a working pwer button light, i found the correct type that does not blow every few months, and have spares anyway.185wpc in class A. (2.5k new)

MVX.2 pre, very very rare and this ones a minter, with off board twin choked PSU a fantastic MC phono stage, this is highly regarded and some reviews said it was among the best in the world at any price (2.6K new).

I have more pics both exerrnal and internal showing the excellent condition and specs if wanted.

All original spec, and unmolested apart from me keeping it clean internally, i have pics to show that all the caps etc are in good condition.

An older A370 in not nearly such nice condition sold for £700 recently and the pre is worth more so i am looking for offers in the region of £1450 for the pair but will split if needs must tho it would be a shame, they were made for each other.

Any trial as they say and i`m willing to deliver within a 250ml radius of south wales for fuel cost only, or you can come here and have a listen.

As you know black is not the easiest colour to photograph, there are some smears left by a rag on the back of the amp and the pics make the H/Sink paintwork look far worse than they are, you have to be real close to see them, the amp is in better condition than many i have seen sold recently and it performs flawlessly as does the pre-amp which is amazing bit of kit and better than the NU Vista IMO and many reviewers who were singing its praises.
I will genuinly be sad to see this go but my room size does not warrant this kind of power and i need to cut down on the leccy bill.
I dont have the original boxes or instructions, but have full specs in the booklet that featured these items at the time.

I may be going the valve route depends on sensible offers, PM me here if interested. Thanks.

Very nice, that's proper MF before Michaelson turned into a discounting bolshy fool. It must be a drainer though, what's the power consumption at idle and full tilt?

He was always bolshy, i remember going there after buying an A1 ex dem from uxbridge audio, it dropped a channel and U/A got narky and said take it back to MF, so i did, and was introduced to the man who said "those f******* C****" took it off me and gave me a brand new one, he was ok with me but i could tell he was on a short fuse.
A370 power consunption is 2.5k peak but tbo honest i never have the pot past 8/9 o clock so dont really know, the spec says Current is 50 amps peak, and according to the book although it has 185wpc on the back of the amp, in practice its more like 200+.
The pre`s power consumption is 40 watts.
The Mk11 i have is not as hot running and power hungry as the original A370 with the red button and does not dim the lights on switch on as the first one did, in reality mine is never so hot you cant hold your hands on the h/sinks unlike the old A1.

LOL! Good story. :)

2.5k is a heck of a drain, like a fan heater! Looks like a bomb proof design though.

If I didn't have a five month old daughter (money draining) I'd have tried to smuggle these in. :P

Are you sure that this isn't a decision you'd regret? Or have you already found something better/different?

Hi again, A1000 ! :)

It was me that bought these units from thrunobulax. I have now sold both items on again. The pre went to Italy, the power went to Leeds and/or Scotland.

That MF A370/2 is a mighty fine power amp!

Glad you like it, Ali. :)

It's doing sterling service on the end of a pair of Scott's MLTL's-Fostex full-range driver at 94 dB believe it or not.Sounds great, though funnily enough I don't get much range on the volume control... :lolsign:

Make sure the caps are ok and over-specified if anything, as failures are VERY messy, for the speakers as well as the amp........

Yes the next move is to change all the elecrolytics. This is going to cost though! Anyone know a cheap supplier of 22000 uf,100v,105c caps? I'm currently looking at Rifa's at around 30 quid or more each.Yikes!

There are some low ESR Vishays around now which I put in my Crowns (22,000uF, 40V). They sounded great (not hugely different to what came out, which were Mallory computer grade ones at 7,000uF each, but the amp takes more than twice as long before shutting off after power off).

Big caps do cost - one reason why bigger amps cost lots more (the supply and casework).

Ali Tait
22-03-2009, 12:20
Yes I'm aware of that, the problem is the price goes up even more if I go for 100v 105c ones as I've been advised to.The total will approach what I paid for the amp, hence me asking if anyone knows of a cheap supplier.

DSJR

Cheapo caps are what may be in your amp now, but better ones with low ESR do cost more it seems. the higher the working voltage, the higher the cost - mine are 40V in a highly VI limited cool running 30V circuit and this may have helped the lifespan of the original caps, which still measure ok. Apparently Naim use 40V caps in a circuit that usually means they see 37V or so and i was informed that this is one reason why they don't last as long (being left on 24/7 doesn't help either).

100V caps are usually large and costly. I'd suggest you wait until you can get some good ones and do the job properly...

I use Farnell or RS, but Rapid in Colchester do some nice Dubilier ones for valve amps.

Ali Tait
22-03-2009, 15:20
Yes I've looked at all the usual suspects and Farnells seems about the cheapest. As for the stock caps,no not cheapies but Elna Cerafines. They didn't skimp in this amp!
