Hi,
I connected my dvd player (sony BDP S370) to my croft amp for the first time today and I'm getting quite bad buzzing noise like a turntable without the earth attached. The dvd is about 3 meters away on a wooden unit the amps on a wooden shelf. Could it be an earthing issue? It's worse through the input its using but audible through all other inputs too.

Sounds like an earth loop, but the only problem is the Sony is fed from a two core cable with no earth

I'm assuming you are probably feeding a TV or some kind of monitor via HDMI or Component video from the Sony, do you have anything else that happens to connect to the Croft that is also connected to the TV/monitor?

I'm using HDMI and there's nothing else going into the croft from the tv

Any other outputs from the Sony such as a digital output to a DAC?

This is puzzling

Nothing except a network cable to my router but it buzzes with or without this connected. I've tried unplugging the HDMI. no change and I've tried different phono leads as well:scratch:

Have you tried connecting a wire strap between the cases of the BDP and the Croft ?

Not yet. I'll try that next.

Ok, so 1st prize goes to goroman for correctly identifying the bad HDMI cable;).
When I unplugged the HDMI the first time, I unplugged it from the tv and not the dvd:doh:
So thanks for all the advice. I can now enjoy some Old Grey Whistle Tests through the Croft and Tannoy's .

Any advice on HDMI cables?
Some times cheap HDMI cables break internally, and can be bad right out of the box. There is alot going on in those cables so pay a little more for a good one.
I had a buzz and some ghosting with one that came with our HD cable box.
A trip to our Electronics store solved everything pretty fast.
Here is a very well made cable at low cost. http://www.frys.com/product/6320731?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
If you spend a little more,I use this one. http://www.frys.com/product/6025188?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
