The ''new'' cd is superb and it's nice to hear The Red Shoes remastered...the main disc does require a few listens..and it is a very interesting project. I wonder why she put The Sensual World in the set completely untouched ..If you at all enjoy Kates music it is worth a pop....

I think it's all brilliant apart from just one track (Deeper Understanding) ........ I dislike autotune with a passion, what the heck was she thinking there :scratch: but I guess some folk may like it. I think it's dreadful and just cannot listen to it at all :(

I've already ripped all 3 disc's to FLAC and deleted that track, so I won't hear it again unless I play the CD :eyebrows: Overall though, I'm very pleased with what she has done here.

That's interesting, as it's the song I like the least :scratch: maybe I will have to try it again?

I don't know what she's done but there's something about the subtlety and her vocals that make the versions of tracks on 'Directors Cut' utterly beguiling. The sort of thing you want to listen to over and over - and I'm not really a KB fan. I can see why she wanted to do this.

Two main reasons for the difference in sound are reverting back to analogue, and moving everything down in pitch to suit her voice nowadays.

My favourite track of hers is "And So Is Love", and listening to the two versions back-to-back is like hearing someone grow up.

Ohhhh no. The new version lacks the openness and depth of soundstage and emotion of the original, which made it a long term listening/evaluation track of mine imho.

So far Neil I've only heard it on Spotify. I need to get the proper release to really have a feel for how it really sounds in those terms. It's next on my list to get though! I far prefer the more 'chilled out' arrangement versus the original though - YMMV!

I'd say it is vocoding rather than autotune..

Anyway, it's the computer program singing, hence the deliberate attempt to sound like a computer:

I haven't heard it yet, but usually hate anything with a vocoder... spawn of the devil's trumpet IMHO those devices. (Well apart from Cher's "I Believe" - quite liked that one... ;)) I'll give the album a try sometime, but having suffered Aerial again this month I'm still in recovery...

Alex, this is very good indeed and if you like her at all, I think you should be pleased :) The 3 disc set is IMO excellent.

:lol: yep, I couldn't agree more ....... I just cannot listen to it in any shape or form, leaves me cold and I have to turn it off pronto', I would rather listen to nothing at all. Hate's a strong word, but I REALLY hate autotune or anything that resembles it :steam:
I'm not a fan of Simon Cowell, but even he has banned it from being used on 'that show' of his!

I've just been listening to side one of the vinyl set and it's gorgeous. The richness of the soundstage and her still wonderful voice compare rather well with the thickness and density of some of her later productions.

Great recording and great sound. Oh, and she still looks delectable in that photo of her holding up the film strip. All the bigger in the vinyl booklet, of course :)

I think we've debated this before Dan - I so think that track is ruined by the vocoder treatment - but it would be a sad old world if we all felt the same! :)
