IC's for Croft

Hi,
Can anyone recommend some Ic's between my Croft pre and power?
I'm planning a 1210 Cardas rewire and thought I should sort out the amp end if I'm to fully benefit. I thought perhaps the belkin silvers would do but I don't really want 1.2 meters of cable trailing out of the back for a distance of about 15cm. I'm happy to knock up a pair if someone can recommend some decent components.

Well I think either the the Belkin pure silver for a very great value IC or if you want to go with the real big boys the top of the range Mark Grant cable another great value cable

Hi Jamie,

I use a Croft preamp and the Mark Grant G2000HDs I use sound fab. However, if you don't want to spend that much, then I can thoroughly recommend the G1000HDs, which IME are better than the Belkin stuff :)

The belkins work well for cheapies, but you may have difficulty getting hold of any around 1m length though.

I'm holding fire on the Mark Grants 'cos I think mine may be faulty in some way. In the meantime, I bought a couple of Van Damme XKE cables for a tenner the pair (phono to 1/4" jacks) and the phono ones are less than £15.00 from ProAudioShop (eBay or their own site). These latter (used with writing going back to the preamp from the power amps) have more space and depth, bass "breathes" more, treble is less "etched" and Hifi sounding and the sound of the Spendors is now more like HiFi Dave's Croft driven Harbeths (and he uses interconnects no longer available which sound truly amazing with valve based gear) and I've felt no inclination whatsoever to return to the Quad II's since I plugged these cheapo cables in.

My current personal advice would be to try the above mentioned belkin or VD XKE cables for peanuts, get used to these and then take Mark Grant up on his excellent offer of sale-or-return. it may just be that despite the writing on the cables, they are in fact running in the wrong direction - solid core wires can be more sensitive to this I've found...

At the end of the day, Glenn's amps aren't too fussy what they're used with cable wise. Even a cheapo patch cord will bring much of the magic through :)

Cant remember which cables you have, I remember something XLR to phono possibly.

Hi Mark, loads of stressful stuff at work and the stereo barely gets a look in.

The "silver plated" XLR to phono's are great and love the CD player, so no issue there. The probs are possibly with the HD1500 phono to jack leads you made fresh for me, which I'm sure didn't sound the same as the original Canare plugged pair I had. I'll get them back to you for checking when I'm able and very glad you're so accommodating.
